Job summary

The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Community Engineer to join us. In this role, you will serve as one of the primary public faces of the Ansible Community project to help people contribute to the Ansible Project. You will be responsible for improving the Ansible contributor experience by spotting and addressing issues and confusion in the community. As a Senior Software Community Engineer, you will be focusing primarily on the Ansible collections which are new in Ansible 2.10. Successful applicants must reside in a country where Red Hat is registered to do business.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Assist contributors with any issues experienced during the contribution experience like understanding the process, how things are merged, contributor responsibilities, etc.; support first time contributors in order to ensure they become regular contributors
  • Continually watch the various aspects of the Ansible community to spot common issues and help address them
  • Support the growing number of Ansible Working groups; maintain regular contact with them and feedback their problems and solutions to the wider community so others can benefit from their work
  • Help design and implement infrastructure for internal and community use includings testing, deployment. and documentation pipeline; the various Ansible projects currently uses a mix of GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Shippable, and Zuul-CI 
  • Help maintain and release the official Ansible Distribution. 
  • Help produce the community owned Ansible collections
  • Help define the technical direction for the community

Required skills

  • Experience working in open source communities
  • Basic knowledge of Python
  • High ability or desire to automate repetitive tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Experience with the following is considered a plus:

  • Previous contributions to the Ansible Project
  • User experience with Ansible or Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform
  • Experience with maintaining an open source project
  • Experience with codecov.io, GitHub Actions, GitHub Bots, Shippable, Travis, or Zuul-CI
  • Experience in writing technical user facing documentation
