Working collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team, the Psychiatric Tech II is assigned to and works under the direction of a Registered Nurse, participating in carrying out nursing interventions to provide patients with opportunities for learning and adaptive ways of coping. The Psychiatric Tech II works collaboratively with the licensed staff on the ongoing development of the milieu and activities that promote quality patient outcomes.

Responsibilities:

* 1. Collaborates with the Registered Nurse in the application of principles of patient assessment.
* 1.1 Demonstrates basic skills in collecting data by interviewing patient and identifying overt and covert problems as observed by supervisor.

* 2. Collaborates with the Registered Nurse in the application of principles for planning patient care.
* 2.1 Collaborates with RN in problem identification for nursing care plans.

* 3. Works with the Registered Nurse in the application of principles for planning patient care.
* 3.1 Collaborates with RN in problem identification for nursing care plans as observed by supervisor.

* 4. Works with the Registered Nurse in the application of principles of implementation of care.
* 4.1 Bases care on specific identified patient needs as observed by supervisor.

* 5. Works with the Registered Nurse in the application of principles of evaluation of patient care.
* 5.1 Reviews patient condition with RN against expected outcomes.

* 6. Demonstrates accountability and responsibility for actions.
* 6.1 Demonstrates compliance with legal, regulatory codes, and psychiatric policies.

* 7. Demonstrates interest in self development.
* 7.1 Identifies areas in performance needing improvement as evidenced by ongoing communication with supervisor.

* 8. Completes non-therapeutic functions under the direction of MD, PA, APRN or RN.
* 8.1 Remove medication(s) from the pneumatic tube system sent from the Pharmacy or Hospital Supply to the unit/patient care area.

* 9. 9 Assists the nursing staff in maintaining a therapeutic milieu/environment to ensure the care and treatment of patients. 9 1. Acts as a cofacilitator in select unit based therapeutic groups as identified by Nurse Manager. 9.2 Participates in the ongoing development of the therapeutic milieu/environment, creatively shapes milieu activities to the needs of the current patient population's developmental needs. 9 3. Engages in anticipatory planning and problem solving in collaboration with the Primary/Associate Nurse within the milieu/environment. 9.4 Initiates patient activities and social interactions in individual and group situations consistent with the nursing plan of care. 9 5. Provides environmental and emotional safety for each patient through consistent limit setting, redirection, physical holding and restraining, as well as monitoring activities and interactions of visitors, under direction of the Registered Nurse. 9 6. Maintains a clean and safe patient environment. 9 7.Collaborates with the RN, RT, Social Worker, Music Therapist or Occupational Therapist in cofacilitating therapeutic activity and/or treatment oriented groups; attends supervision as scheduled to increase understanding of cofacilitator relationship and patient responses to groups. 9 8. Provides the appropriate level of safety monitoring (safety checks, 1:1, line of sight) for each patient as delegated by the RN
* 10. 10 Under the direction of the RN, performs technical duties and selected treatments, procedures and activities which contribute to safe and efficient delivery of patient care. 10 1. Appropriately assures patients are accurately identified (i.e. doors, ID bands, barcode scanning for lab draws etc.) following establish policies and procedures 10 2 . Appropriately obtains specimens and performs tests assuring proper and timely transport following established policies and procedures (i.e. 12-lead ECGs and blood draws) after successfully completing training. 10 3. Assists patients or performs activates of daily living such as: personal/oral hygiene, safe feeding, toileting and Elimination and ambulation as appropriate or as delegated by the RN 10 4 . Assists in the care of patients with restraints. Documents according to guidelines per policy 10 5 Participates in receiving patient bedside report at the beginning of each shift and throughout the shift as needed

Qualifications:

EDUCATION

Bachelors degree required

EXPERIENCE

Minimum two (2) years prior experience in Psychology and or related field, working with specialized populations such as adults, adolescents and or children and families with psychiatric illness.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team to communicate and effectively deal with complex effectively charged situations and possess group facilitation and crisis management skills.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. They are also required to stand and walk. They must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities require include close vision, distance vision, color vision , peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
