The Workshop Manager

Manages staff and sets realistic expectations for the workshop teams in effort to meet UAP's production initiatives. A Workshop Manager is responsible for running day-to-day activities at the workshop and enforcing business goals related to the operations within the facility. It is their responsibility to ensure that teams execute workshop functions safely and successfully, acting as liaison between a company's upper management and the employees who manufacturer, assemble and deliver the work to clients. 

Salary Description: 90,000.00 to 130,000.00

Salary Description: 90,000.00 to 130,000.00

Responsibilities:

The Workshop Manager is on-site full-time at the facility but may travel to other locations for meetings with company management or to meet clients when damage control is required. They collaborate with Production Managers and Department Leads to set priorities for the day and week. They also occasionally interact with customers and clients to maintain strong relationships and resolve any issues that arise.

Above all, a Workshop Manager assists Team and Expertise Leads to achieve their goals and ensures that all teams function effectively. Their specific duties and scope of work vary depending on the evolving needs of the business:

Train their staff, work to keep their teams organized, and delegate tasks to team members to carry out and perform workshop functions. Workshop Managers are strong communicators, addressing issues with employees and motivating their teams by acknowledging strengths while helping to overcome weaknesses. They empower their teams to be successful by delegating tasks, holding accountability, and offering opportunities for growth and exploring new ideas. They are flexible and use creative problem-solving to respond and adapt to challenges such as missed production goals, discouraged staff members, and unsatisfied customers.

Managing Workshop Teams (50%)

* Build and maintain teams that deliver successful work and are satisfied with key workplace elements (work, pay, and culture).
* Develop key performance goals and manage staff performance.
* Hire new staff within a department and retain staff satisfaction.
* Attend to and address the various needs of staff and their departments.
* Ensure information and processes are communicated clearly to all workshop staff.
* Provide professional development to workshop team members that supports business needs and team members' professional goals.
* Implement and enforce strategies for workshop growth and capacity.
* Assist senior leadership in maintaining a healthy balance between work, pay, and culture.
* Support Workshop Teams with project resourcing and collaborate with People and Culture in recruiting new talent to meet business needs.

Workshop Strategy (25%)

* Work with senior leadership to understand business strategies, with an emphasis on workshop production and operations, and translate these into actionable plans for workshop staff.
* Monitor the financial health of workshop operations and keep teams on budget.
* Implement growth strategies and increase capacity.
* Liaise between senior leadership and workshop staff to explore expanding resources and capabilities.
* Serve as an advocate for workshop staff and address concerns with senior leadership regarding current issues and challenges.
* Collaborate with Operations and Production Managers to encourage creative problem-solving on products and processes.

Commercial & Maintenance Challenges (25%)

* Serve as a resource for teams, safeguarding projects, addressing concerns, and providing feedback on jobs in all phases of production, including pre-contract.
* Oversee large projects and interpret performance reports.
* Assist Operations and Department Leads in developing new solutions to meet client and business needs.
* Collaborate with Operations and Department Leadership to improve internal processes for better productivity and quality.
* Ensure that departments deliver quality offerings to clients.

Qualifications:

Skills & Attributes An effective Workshop Manager needs a broad range of industry knowledge and soft skills, including:

* Moderate understanding of general manufacturing and production environments.
* Basic understanding of core foundry production operations.
* Excellent leadership skills, including goal setting, motivating, training, and mentorship.
* Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
* Strong strategic thinking and planning abilities.
* Understanding of budget management and financial monitoring.
* Focus on interpersonal and communication skills (writing, speaking, and active listening).
