The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Vice President of Community Impact in our Durham, NC office.
Under the direction of the Executive Director and with a dotted line to the Region SVP of Health Strategies, the Durham Vice President of Community Impact is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating community impact strategies across the Greater Triangle market (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, NC), and Eastern NC to achieve market and Association strategic goals.

Responsibilities:
* As a member of the Durham management team and the affiliate's health strategies leadership team, consistently models the organization's leadership competencies and values in advancing the mission and achievement of health impact and revenue goals. In collaboration with the Executive Director, Triangle VP of development, Sr. Development Director, Eastern NC, and the Marketing Communications Director provides vision and direction for the Triangle and Eastern NC's unified health and revenue efforts, oversees integrated planning processes for all functional areas within the span of control, and actively involves, informs, and integrates with internal partners across the metro market, affiliate, and association.
* Leads and manages the Triangle/Eastern NC Health Strategies team, in partnership with functional Health Strategies Vice Presidents as applicable, including coaching staff to achieve organizational objectives.
* As a player/coach, implements strategy in content expertise (community impact, communications, etc.), while supervising Community Impact staff to achieve annual goals and objectives.
* In conjunction with community partners and focusing on eliminating health disparities, the VP of Community Impact will lead the process of building or participating in collective impact campaigns for the market. This will include assessing the community health needs in the local market and developing, coordinating and/or implementing community wide strategies that focus on eliminating health disparities through proven-effective policies, systems, and environmental change approaches.
* With the executive director, responsible for the recruitment and engagement of medical and non-medical volunteer leadership that represents and provides the community influence and personal affluence to champion the Triangle and Eastern NC's board of director's revenue and health impact objectives.
* Builds a network of volunteers and identifies appropriate external partners to drive meaningful engagement to advance the organization's priorities and drive toward well-being in the community.
* Develops, implements and evaluates an integrated approach to strategically aligned community health and development planning consistent with market, affiliate and association-wide goals. Effectively involves and informs internal and external partners, mobilizing action around clearly defined, shared goals.
* Identifies opportunities for and promotes collaboration and synergies among and between health and revenue functions to most effectively execute the organization's priority initiatives.
* Develops and manages/monitors market health strategies budgets within span of control and internal business operations in accordance with policies, fiscal standards and the approved operating budget.
Qualifications:
* Ability to do daily local travel within the Greater Triangle market (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, NC) and Eastern NC requires access to reliable transportation on an immediate basis
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent; 5+ years of relative experience in community/public health, or related field.
* Demonstrated critical thinking skills in assessing the market environment and available resources to successfully conduct new and existing programs. Experience with collective impact campaigns preferred.
* Proven ability to recruit, train, manage, and utilize staff and volunteers effectively, including C-suite level executive volunteers and volunteer/board management experience.
* Demonstrated ability to lead large projects and events ensuring target compliance.
* Demonstrated ability to efficiently participate in a multi-disciplinary team environment working towards common goals. Ability to influence team members without supervisory authority.
* Excellent relationship-building skills, verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening, problem-solving, and decision-making.
* Highly effective presentation and organizational skills, time management, responsibility, leadership, and motivation.
* Ability and willingness to occasionally travel outside the market and to work the occasional evening and weekend as needed.
