The Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, Carrier Clinic Chair, Psychiatry, Chair is responsible for assuring the delivery of quality clinical services for which he/she has been given oversight. Clinical services rendered should effectively address the needs of healthcare populations served. This role has knowledge of and meets the requirements of The Joint Commission, CMS, State, and other applicable regulatory and/or accrediting agencies. The VP, CMO, CC/Chr, Psychiatry, C is responsible for clinical leadership and advice/counsel to the President and Chief Hospital Executive, Central Region President, CTS EVP Behavioral Health and Board of Trustees, and others as needed on all clinical affairs, quality goals and measures, and education. The VP, CMO, CC/Chr, Psychiatry, C will also be responsible for advancing the Carrier Clinic and 'Carrier Behavioral Health' brand name on a state and national platform along with the President and Chief Hospital Executive. Included in this position are also leadership responsibilities for the Vice Chair, Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health. Responsibilities: A day in the life of a Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, Carrier Clinic Chair, Psychiatry, Chair at Hackensack Meridian Health includes: * Participates with leaders from the Board of Trustees, management, medical staff, and clinical areas in the hospital's decision-making structures and processes. * Participates in administrative meetings, hospital committees, the Executive Committee, and Board of Trustees. * Participates in the formulation of Hospital goals, objectives, and plans, and the development of new healthcare endeavors. * When requested, actively participates in the pursuit of linkages and joint ventures to improve and stabilize the hospital's referral base. * Participates in the planning and evaluation of hospital programs and in the development of new services and the efficacy of services delivered. * Bi-Annually reviews the qualifications and performance of all members of the Medical Staff in consultation with the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff. Recommends to the Board of Trustees those members of the Medical Staff whose qualifications and performance meet re-appointment standards. * Makes rounds on all direct reports monthly and reports findings of significance throughout the organization. * Responsible for recruiting and maintaining the services of Medical Staff and directors of certain ancillary departments. Develops clinical programs and policies for medical and related departments and advises Administration on medical matters. * Responsible for overseeing the quality and effectiveness for the delivery of clinical care in all designated areas throughout the organization. Responsible for advancing the Carrier Clinic and Carrier Behavioral Health brand name on a state and national level platform. * Maintains credentials required of full-time medical staff. Encourages and facilitates participation of attending medical staff in medical education activities. * Assesses, evaluates, and acts to ensure that Performance Improvement, Corporate Compliance, Health Information Management, and Risk Management Standards are met and takes appropriate action to continue development of the Medical Staff's role in Carrier's Performance Improvement Plan. Works in the development and implementation of a program of continuous quality improvement. * Maintains appropriate standards for all medical services, investigates and studies new developments in medical practice and techniques, reviews and acts upon reported concerns related to the quality and safety of care and services provided. * As an active member of the medical staff, provides on-call coverage and direct psychiatric services to the inpatient programs including coverage for vacations, illness, crisis, and other situations requiring back-up, as noted by supervisor. * Provides support to the Employee Health program. * Provides support to the EMS health program. * Assumes the role of Chair of the Performance Improvement Management Committee. * Assumes the role of the Patient Safety Officer, Chairs the Patient Safety Committee, responsible for the review, revision and approval of the patient safety plan annually, and to promote a culture of safety at Carrier Clinic. * Responsible for fostering effective, open communication across departments to ensure that all needed information is shared. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with clinical staff to ensure continuity and coordination of clinical leadership for designated areas. * Interacts well with patients, visitors, and Carrier staff, responding promptly to inquiries with tact and sensitivity. Demonstrates a courteous, cooperative, pleasant, and positive attitude, maintaining strict standards of confidentiality. * Interacts well with public, media, community agencies, and committees. In addition, also conduct public service speeches and representation of Carrier initiatives and activities are required. * As requested, represents Carrier with outside agencies in order to enhance the stature of the organization, serves as hospital liaison in appropriate clinical matters with the local medical community, organized medical societies, and community organizations, and serves as an advocate and intermediary with external regulators and agencies. * Assumes role of President of the EMH medical staff. Provides physician representation to EMH committees and oversees performance of all clinical contractual services provided to EMH by the Carrier Clinic medical staff employees. * Appoints committees as required by Bylaws, participates in committee deliberations, and shall be an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees with voting privileges. * Responsible for effective fiscal management of Carrier's resources in area of oversight by providing input to the clinical staff in the preparation of the annual operating budget and participating in the completion of treatment program budgets and monitors budget compliance monthly with the Executive Committee. * Oversees the fiscal operation of the Medical Staff, Physical Therapy, Clinical Administration and Medical Affairs. 26. Oversees the operations of the Pharmacy and the Department of Health Information Management. * Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
