Overview:
The Vice President of Operations is a key executive leader responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of hospital operations at a tertiary care medical center. This role is accountable for day-to-day operational oversight across clinical and non-clinical departments, including support for strategic initiatives, regulatory readiness, capital improvement projects, and quality performance. The VP plays a pivotal role in driving operational excellence, fostering a culture of safety and inclusion, and ensuring alignment with Novant Health's mission to deliver the most remarkable patient experience in every dimension, every time.
The VP reports directly to the Acute Care Regional President and collaborates closely with other senior leaders across the Region and system, including Specialty Institutes and Community Health and Wellness. This leader guides operational strategy while ensuring frontline effectiveness, resource stewardship, and organizational agility in a complex healthcare environment.

Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership & Execution
* Provide strategic and tactical leadership for hospital operations across assigned areas of responsibilities.
* Lead the integration and execution of system-wide operational initiatives at the hospital and satellite locations, as needed.
* Monitor and improve operational performance metrics, including throughput, efficiency, staffing, productivity and resource utilization.
* Ensure compliance with safety standards, accreditation requirements, and regulatory bodies (e.g., The Joint Commission, CMS).
* Maintain direct oversight of renovation, construction, and expansion projects, ensuring alignment with budget, scope, and timelines.
* Serve as a key liaison with internal and external stakeholders, vendors, and regulatory agencies.

Strategic & Financial Stewardship
* Collaborate in the development and implementation of operational and capital budgets.
* Evaluate service line and departmental performance and recommend strategies for growth, cost management, and operational optimization.
* Ensure alignment of facility operational priorities with regional and system-level goals.
Project & Change Management
* Lead or support major operational and capital projects, including facility upgrades, technology implementations, and new service deployments.
* Drive change management initiatives, ensuring effective communication and adoption across departments.
* Identify and mitigate operational risks while promoting innovation and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, or related field required.
* Master's degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), or related field strongly preferred.
* Minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in hospital or healthcare operations.
* Experience in leading large-scale hospital operations, ideally within a tertiary or academic medical center.
* Demonstrated success in managing cross-functional teams, financial performance, and regulatory readiness.
* Professional certification such as FACHE (Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives) or equivalent - Preferred
* Prior experience in Lean Six Sigma, performance improvement, or high-reliability organization (HRO) environments - Preferred
* Experience overseeing large-scale construction or renovation projects in a healthcare setting - Preferred
