The Vice President, Network Development for Smilow Cancer Hospital has overall administrative responsibility and authority for all Smilow Cancer Hospital regional services which include the Medical Oncology & Hematology Care Centers, the Radiation Oncology Centers, oncology service lines at YNHHS delivery networks and the hospital affiliate cancer programs (the Smilow Network). In addition, is responsible for Operations and Logistics support at all Smilow Cancer Hospital locations. While overall responsibilities include day-to-day operations, the Vice President will focus on relationship management, program development, marketing, contracting and business management.

Responsibilities:

* 1. Program and Business Development Works closely with the leadership of the Smilow Cancer Hospital, Yale Cancer Center and YNHHS to develop and implement strategic plans for the Smilow Cancer Hospital Program, incorporating the following elements: Vision of the programs and services to be offered, Physician staffing needs, Non-physician staffing needs, Financial considerations (e.g., volume, costs, revenues, capital, etc.), Marketing strategy and plan, Annual budget projections, Clinical reporting and regulatory compliance.
* 1.1 Develops and updates financial and operational performance objectives, relevant databases, annual budgets, operating plan and marketing plan for the Smilow Network.

* 2. Marketing and Communications Works closely with YNHHS, YCC and YM marketing leadership to develop and continually update the Smilow/YCC marketing and communications plan with active involvement of medical staff and managerial teams across the enterprise.
* 2.1 Develops market position strategy and long-range marketing plan. Develops, implements and evaluates strategy for market position and market distinction.

* 3. Care Center and Radiation Oncology Operations Management In consultation with the VP of Smilow Patient Services, Smilow Clinical Program Directors, Medical Directors and Clinical Program Managers:
* 3.1 Evaluates operational processes for improvement opportunities in service and efficiency.

* 4. Radiation Oncology Administrative Role Administratively oversees the Radiation Oncology and Physics Departments and ensures integration with Smilow Cancer Hospital and Smilow Network operations and planning. Advances programs and services in collaboration with medical leadership.
* 5. Purchaser Development Activities
* 5.1 Develops relationships and ongoing communication with major purchasers of care.

* 6. Networking and Outreach Oversees the development of appropriate outreach to enhance the delivery of care in the region.
* 6.1 Is responsible for working with outreach physicians and staff to establish and maintain consumer and provider outreach and screening programs across YNHHS.

* 7. Medical Staff Relationships Promotes and manages relationships with physicians, practices and hospitals throughout the state and region.
* 7.1 Maintains open communication with Medical Staff to identify, monitor and solve issues and concerns.

* 8. Cancer Registry Administratively oversees the Cancer Registry across all Smilow Network locations, and ensures integration with Smilow Cancer Hospital and Smilow Network operations and planning. Responsibility includes ensuring compliance with ACoS Commission on Cancer standards.
* 9. Smilow Enterprise Operations and Logistics Support Administratively oversees the Operations and Logistics Support teams and functions across the Smilow enterprise.
* 9.1 The Operations and Logistics teams are responsible for enterprise wide infrastructure support at main campus and across all network sites which includes; facilities, clinical engineering, supply chain ( (Purchasing, Materials, etc.), EVS, IT, Finance.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION

Bachelors degree in a healthcare related field required; Masters degree or equivalent experience

EXPERIENCE

Eight (8) years of progessive leadership experience in a complex, academic medical center, preferably in an oncology setting.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Strong work ethic, and the ability to keep pace with the departments growing and changing needs. Excellent administrative, technical and fiscal management skills. Must be able to build and lead an effective mulitdisciplinary management team. Ability to coordinate Hospital and University programs and work successfully in a matrix-managed environment. Ability to quickly develop and maintain effective relationships with various internal and external constituants including Yale University staff members, staff of the affiliated hospitals and community colleges. Ability to successfully negotiate and effectively manage complex and politically challenging relationships. In addition, the successful candidate must demonstrate the following qualities: Proven ability to shape administrative strategies to support program success; success in developing, implementing and evaluating strategic and operational plans while hitting budget targets. Excellent organizational skills to manage time and resources effectively.
