Overview: The Unit Secretary supports the communication hub of the department. This is the first impression and line of communication with the patients, the providers, and referral sources. The Unit Secretary schedules, initiates, and maintains the patient registration process in collaboration with the Sr. Unit Secretary; assists with point-of-service collections; helps to maintain communication with outside sources, including referring providers, insurance companies, and other hospital departments. This individual may assist with data collection and verification as requested and assigned, including charge verification, departmental data collection, and reporting to other hospital departments. Another key function is supply management and requisitioning. Responsibilities: Patient Registration and Account Management * Schedules, initiates, and maintains the patient registration process. * Completes point-of-service collection. * Maintains communication with outside sources, including referring providers, insurance companies, and other hospital departments. * Collects and verifies data as requested and assigned, including charge verification, departmental data collection, and reporting to other hospital departments. Staff and Patient Support Services * Educates staff regarding front desk operations. * Educates patients regarding insurance coverage, co-pays, co-insurance, and limitations. * Provides therapy tech support as needed. Supply Requisition and Management * Requisitions and manages supplies. * Maintains appropriate supply lists. Qualifications: Education: * High School Diploma/GED required Experience: * Prior healthcare business office experience (ex: unit clerk, insurance, billing or registration office position)
