Overview: Unit Clerk- Obstetrics UnityPoint Health-Fort Dodge FTE: 1.0 (Full-time, 40 hours a week) Monday-Friday, no weekends! Responsibilities: Serves as unit receptionist and completes clerical tasks under the supervision of the manager/designee. Welcomes new patients and other guests. Displays friendly and courteous behavior to patients, visitors, and other hospital personnel. Initiates telephone calls per request of staff. Operates unit call light system, answering requests and relaying information regarding patient's needs/requests to appropriate staff member. Maintains current telephone listings. Maintains a supply of new charts. Lists new patients on unit assignment worksheets. Completes tasks associated with discharge of patients: Orders supplies according to unit needs. Maintains orderly storage of supplies. Assists with patient care activities as directed by the registered nurse. Delivers and/or obtains supplies/specimens to Radiology, Pharmacy, Lab and Central Sterile. Reviews charges for accuracy. Initiates work orders for biomedical and maintenance via HELP line or intranet. Enters correction of staffing hours in timekeeping system. Performs duties following unit and nursing standards. Assists with maintaining a safe work environment, that promotes safety and security of all guests. Communicates with other members of the healthcare team to ensure coordination of services with other departments. Participates in unit operations. Demonstrates professional behaviors. Supports goals of nursing unit. Maintains awareness of resource utilization. Participates in non-direct patient care activities including educational activities, quality improvement activities, and other related activities. Demonstrates positive customer relation skills. Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures. Facilitates and fosters cooperative relations between all departments of the organization. Qualifications: Education: High School graduate Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred. License(s)/Certification(s): Basic Life Support required. Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to exercise judgment, maintain interpersonal relationships and adapt to change. Ability to spell correctly, write or print legibly, speak clearly, use correct grammar. Ability to organize work. Requires knowledge of basic medical terminology. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to interact appropriately and perform clerical services for infant, child, adolescent and adult patients. Other: Office equipment, paper supplies, handles patient care supplies and medications.
