Overview:
Steampunk wants you to be a Training Specialist to support one of our federal customers in the Washington DC area. The role is expected to have hybrid (both on-site and remote) work requirements.
The ideal candidate should be an experienced training professional with a strong background in instructional design and a proven ability to create engaging and effective training materials. This role involves working closely with cybersecurity professionals and subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify learning objectives and develop training programs that can be delivered by SMEs or accessed independently. Familiarity with the NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF) is essential, as this position requires translating complex cybersecurity concepts into clear and impactful learning experiences.
Responsibilities:
* Assess and update existing training materials, ensuring relevance, accuracy, and alignment with organizational goals.
* Develop comprehensive training methods and materials, including curriculum design for lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, workshops, and self-paced learning that can be uploaded to an LMS.
* Lead the creation of engaging and interactive training content to enhance learner engagement and knowledge retention.
* Collaborate with cybersecurity SMEs to understand and analyze business processes, translating requirements into effective training materials tailored for unique audiences.
* Incorporate knowledge checks, interactive learning techniques, and scenario-based assessments to enhance learner comprehension and application of key concepts.
* Design supplemental materials, including infographics, case studies, fact sheets, closed-captioned video clips, and quick reference sheets to support diverse learning needs.
* Ideate and develop additional training modules to enhance engagement with cybersecurity by audiences outside of security teams.
* Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, assessments, and performance metrics, continuously improving instructional strategies.
* Apply change management principles to program training needs, proactively creating artifacts and plans for stakeholder engagement, communication, and related areas.
* Stay current with instructional design trends, adult learning theories, and emerging educational technologies to enhance training delivery methods.
Qualifications:
* Ability to obtain a U.S. government Public Trust Security Clearance
* Master's Degree and 1 years of relevant experience; OR
* Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience; OR
* No degree and 8 years of relevant experience
* Possesses at least one professional certification relevant to the technical service provided. Maintain a certification relevant to the product being deployed and/or maintained.
* 3+ years of total experience in instructional design, training development, or a related area.
* Demonstrated knowledge and application of instructional design frameworks such as ADDIE, SAM, or other relevant models.
* Familiarity and relevant experience with cybersecurity compliance and the NIST RMF.
* Proficiency with MS Office Suite, industry standard e-learning authoring tools, and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and effectively.
* Proven ability to collaborate with SMEs and cross-functional teams to build and deliver training that supports organizational objectives.
Bonus Points
* Familiarity with the NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF), security concepts, cybersecurity terminology, and compliance requirements.
* Experience developing training materials for cybersecurity professionals, including executive reporting and regulatory compliance topics.
* Relevant professional certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+).
* Working knowledge of agile frameworks and change management strategies and best practices.
* Experience working in fast-paced, dynamic environments with changing requirements.
