About this opportunity
The EMEA Trade Compliance Manager at Align Technology plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with customs and trade regulations while driving cost-saving opportunities for the business. This position is key to advancing the global standardization, transformation, and optimization of import and export compliance processes. The manager will work closely with internal teams such as legal, logistics, customs, finance, tax, and regulatory affairs to mitigate trade risks and avoid legal penalties.
The role reports to the Sr. Manager of Trade Compliance Global and will be based in Wrocław, Poland.
In this role, you will
* Serve as the subject matter expert on import and export compliance across the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, & Africa) region, overseeing areas such as tariff classification, customs valuation, country of origin determination, trade preference programs, internal audits, and risk mitigation.
* Act as the primary trade compliance contact for government authorities in EMEA, representing Align Technology in customs audits and managing voluntary disclosures and post-entry corrections.
* Build and nurture relationships with internal stakeholders to raise awareness of trade compliance issues, proactively identify risks, and develop compliance controls.
* Ensure proper record-keeping practices for trade documentation across the EMEA region in line with local regulations and Align's internal policies.
* Identify and implement duty and VAT mitigation strategies for cross-border transactions, analyzing cost benefits and leading duty-saving initiatives.
* Collaborate with logistics and customs affairs to identify, evaluate, and manage opportunities for cost-effective and compliant trade (e.g., using Free Trade Agreements, Duty Drawback, First Sale for Export, Foreign Trade Zones, etc.).
* Stay updated on trade-related regulatory changes in trade laws and regulations and assess their impact on the company's operations
In this role, you'll need
* Fluency in English & Polish required (written and spoken), another European language a plus
* Ability to manage competing priorities and provide a high level of responsiveness across multiple stakeholders
* Proficiency in the laws and regulations related to trade in EMEA, United States, Asia as well as any other jurisdiction within EMEA including bonded facilities, onshore/offshore entities, and customs valuation
* Experience with managing regional healthcare/medical device distributors and customs broker relationships
* Working knowledge of tax and cost accounting methodologies
* Thorough knowledge and familiarity with international shipping documents such as commercial invoice, packing list, air waybill, and export license; including consignee information, INCOTERMS, HTS codes and nomenclature, country of origin, customs valuation, export classification, license data, and regional VAT regulations & reporting
* Bachelor's Degree in supply chain or other similar field with a minimum of 7-10 years of experience; advanced degree is preferred
* Flexibility to travel across the EMEA region as required
