Summary: A Tool & Die Maker analyzes specifications, lay out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists'' hand tools by performing the following duties. Salary Description: $28 - $45 / hr. depending on experience Factory hours are Mon-Thurs 6:00am to 4:30pm Tuition Reimbursement, 401k, Medical, Dental Responsibilities: -Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts. -Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations. -Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining. -Builds, modifies, and repairs progressive dies. -Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications. -Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances. -Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part. -Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product. -Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas. Qualifications: -Education and/or Experience: Completion of an apprenticeship (4 years) or completion of Machinist's Training, Tool and Die Certificate, or Advanced Manufacturing Certificate, followed by at least 4 years of on-the-job training. -Required Tools: Ability to provide, maintain, and obtain own tools. - -Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. -Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. -Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. -Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
