Every year, millions of people interact with the City of Boston to do everything from finding information on City services to paying a parking ticket to starting a business. At Boston Digital Service, we believe these experiences should be easy to find, understand, and navigate.

Boston Digital Service sits within the Innovation and Technology Cabinet and partners with City departments on improving the programs, services, products, and initiatives that make the City of Boston a great place to live. We're a cross-functional team with a mission to transform the user experience of existing services, better engage and communicate with our residents, and build new systems to improve how the City delivers services.

As our Technical Solutions Architect, you will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable, high-performing digital services using enterprise low-code application platforms and custom development.  You will work closely with designers, business stakeholders, and technologists to translate user stories and wireframes into functional applications. You should have experience with the software development lifecycle, low-code application platforms, enterprise architecture, and systems integration.

Responsibilities:

* Collaborate with departmental partners and technology leadership to architect and design scalable and high-performing solutions to meet current and future city services needs. 
* Lead the architectural design of implementations, ensuring best practices and technical excellence. 
* Work closely with designers and departmental stakeholders to understand their needs/user stories and translate them into technical requirements.
* Oversee the development of custom and enterprise low-code platform applications, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
* Serve as product owner for an enterprise software center of excellence.
* Architect and oversee the development of integrations using APIs and SDKs to ensure seamless integration between systems. 
* Manage projects effectively and efficiently while maintaining priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
* Develop and maintain technical documentation.
* Provide input into planning and estimates for upcoming work.
* Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for application performance and build systems for teams to track and optimize them.
* Define best practices and standards for development, integration, and deployment processes.
* Implement automation strategies, including CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and testing frameworks.
* Mentor junior technical staff on technical approaches and best practices. 
* Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices and standards.
* Continuously improve team development practices.
* Collaborate with infrastructure and security teams to ensure compliance and security standards are met.
* May oversee contractors, vendors, and staff.
* Perform related work as required.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree required in related fields such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
* At least five (5) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in software development, application architecture, or systems integration.
* Ability to design and develop scalable and secure applications.
* Strong understanding of database concepts, APIs, and web services.
* Experience with enterprise low-code application platforms such as Creatio, Salesforce,  ServiceNow, Pega Systems, Appian, etc. 
* Familiarity with React and other modern front-end frameworks.
* Familiarity with Firebase, Postgres, and other modern backend tools.
* Demonstrated expertise in managing stakeholder relationships across different levels.
* Experience with agile methodologies.
* Ability to work with ambiguity and drive initiatives forward with limited information.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and project management skills.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills (written and verbal).

BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED - You must live within Boston city limits at the start of your employment.
