Overview:
As our Tax Manager on Avalara's global tax team, you will report to the Tax Senior Director and focus on income tax matters related to Avalara's foreign entities including tax accounting, compliance, planning, and audits. This is a remote position within the United States but will require working hours that partially overlap with the EMEA region. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.

Responsibilities:
* Strategic Tax Planning: Drive the identification, modeling, execution, and ongoing management of domestic and international tax planning strategies to improve effective tax rate and cash tax outcomes.
* Support M&A Lifecycle: Lead the tax process for M&A transactions, including due diligence, structuring, modeling, and post-transaction integration. Partner with corporate development, legal, and finance teams throughout the transaction lifecycle.
* Advance Global Tax Strategy: Support global expansion initiatives, including intellectual property structuring, permanent establishment planning, and transfer pricing optimization with global mobility and business development plans.
* Regulatory & Legislative Monitoring: Stay current on evolving tax laws and regulatory changes (U.S. and international) and assess their potential business and financial statement impacts.
* Transfer Pricing & Credits: Manage global transfer pricing strategy, documentation, and compliance. Partner on R&D credit initiatives and other available tax incentives, including modeling and technical analysis.
* Forecasting & Modeling: Maintain long-range tax forecasts and scenario analyses to inform strategic decision-making and reporting.
* Other Tax Functions: Lead tax-related activities for other corporate transactions including divestitures, formations, dissolutions, and reorganizations. Contribute to other tax-related areas including tax provision, tax return, and tax audits.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or advanced degree (MST/JD/LLM)
* 5+ years of relevant experience in public accounting and/or in industry.
* You have strong analytical and quantitative skills with an understanding of statutory and US GAAP income tax accounting principles applicable to global entities.
* You have broad experience with worldwide income tax compliance, and some indirect tax (e.g., VAT).
* You have research, analytical, and documentation skills.
* You have proficiency in Excel for tax data analysis and reconciliations.
* You have familiarity with general ledger systems; experience with NetSuite
* Ability to communicate effectively globally and across cultures and time zones.

The base pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be
different in other locations.
Colorado $97,400-$155,800 (annually)
Washington $97,400-$155,800 (annually)
California $97,400-$175,000(annually)
NYC $107,600-$175,000 (annually)
