				Overview:

Under the general direction of the Emergency Department Director and Trauma Service Medical Director, is responsible for the operations of the trauma service Program. The Trauma Program Manager is responsible for identification and tracking of all trauma patients entering the medical center. The Trauma Program Manager is a registered nurse who has a comprehensive understanding and demonstrated competency in the care of trauma patients, from admit to discharge.

Position Reports To: Urgent/Emergency Care Services

Responsibilities:

* Functions as Trauma Coordinator:

* Participates in direct care of critically injured patients, as well as functioning as educator and resource nurse for staff providing trauma care. Is expected to respond to trauma activations while in the building. On occasion, may be asked to come it to help facilitate care on off hours.

* Actively involved in selecting, procuring and educating staff about equipment and supplies necessary to meet the patient's needs and the standards of care as outlined by the Trauma WACs.

* Participates in education of Emergency Department staff and hospital personnel relating to the care and treatment of the trauma patient.

* Assists the Emergency Department Director, Manager and Clinical Educator with quality improvement activities to evaluate care provided to the injured.

* Partners with the Trauma Service Medical Director to facilitate trauma quality improvement activities under the auspices of the Trauma Advisory Board.

* Assures that trauma activation charges are being captured and that CWH is receiving enhanced reimbursement for trauma care. Facilitates quarterly Regional Trauma Quality Improvement Committee in conjunction with the Trauma Services Medical Director.

* Coordinates community injury prevention activities and serves as a resource to the community-at-large for education about the prevention of traumatic injury.

* Represents Trauma Services on the Emergency Preparedness subcommittee of the Hospital Safety Committee.

* Reviews on an annual basis all trauma related policies and procedures to assure that policies remain current.

* Maintains trauma contracts.

* Oversees preparation, and serves as contact person, of the trauma application in order to maintain trauma center designation.

* Serves on state committees related to trauma care as appropriate.

* Oversees the Trauma Registrar:

* Assures accurate collection and evaluation of data pertinent to trauma service patients verifying that ICD9-CM injury and E-codes are accurately applied by Trauma Registrar.

* Works with the Trauma Registrar to maintain the Trauma Registry, reviews submitted data and required reports to the Washington State Department of Health.

* Assures that pertinent data, including Injury Severity Score, are available to hospital, clinic and physician billing services to assist with filing of claims under enhanced reimbursement for qualifying patients.

* May serve as CWH representative to city, county and regional emergency preparedness committees.

* Represents CWH at REDi Healthcare Coalition meetings.

* Ad hoc planning groups for city-wide and county-wide emergency preparedness exercises.

* Address patients, visitors, families, and co-workers in a pleasant and respectful manner; display courtesy always.

* Respond quickly and appropriately to inquiries and requests.

* Assist co-workers without being asked.

* Display an unhurried and caring manner with visitors, families, and co-workers when performing duties.

* Maintain confidentiality of all patient-hospital or physician related information. Refrain from gossip and speak in low tones in all appropriate areas.

* Demonstrate a pleasing disposition and sensitivity to visitors', families, and co-workers' needs.

* Perform related assignments as requested in order to promote positive visitor, family, and co-worker relations.

* Communicate, cooperate and perform related duties with other co-workers in your department and in other departments in a courteous and efficient manner to achieve overall hospital goals and objectives.

* Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.

Qualifications:

Required:

* Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field with two years relevant leadership experience.

* Minimum of three (3) years experience in Trauma/Emergency Nursing or Trauma/Critical Care Nursing with demonstrated expertise and competency in care of the injured.
* Current Confluence Health employees may substitute an Bachelor's degree with 6 years of relevant experience, 2 of which must be leadership; with a Bachelor's degree obtained within 2 years of hire; OR completion of the Confluence Health LEAD program.
* Knowledge of and ability to manage Hospital Emergency Incident Management System (if lacking experience in this area, may be given six (6) months to become trained and attain expertise to manage the system).
* Physical Demands: Demonstrated ability to physically implement all aspects of staff nurse role.
* Emotional Demands: Demonstrated emotional stability and ability to function appropriately and effectively in critical, unexpected, or stressful clinical situations.
* Must possess basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, keyboarding, email communication and password management.
* Must maintain primary residence in the Confluence Health service area.
* Current licensure in the state of Washington (RCW 18.88) or licensure through Multistate Nurse Licensure Compact (SSB 5499).
* Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
* Current certification in Trauma Nurse Core Course or instructor status.
* Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support may alternate with Emergency Pediatric Nursing Course.
* Professional certification in area of Emergency or Critical Care Nursing (CEN/CFRN/CCRN).

Desired:

* Master's Degree in nursing or hospital administration.
