Responsibilities:
Sabre Systems is currently recruiting for a Systems Engineer (Journeyman) to support the Systems Engineering Department (SED) at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Lexington Park, MD. The program is providing systems engineering support of weapons systems on various platforms including technical research and development of technologies, analysis, and documentation as part of the acquisition of Aircraft, Weapon, and Integrated Systems and the evaluation of their technical performance, mission suitability and associated acquisition risks throughout the full acquisition process and lifecycle of a program.
In this role, you will support the Strike Planning and Execution Systems under the Next-Generation Naval Aircraft Mission Planning System (Collaborative Mission Planning Continuum - CMPC), a high-visibility, rapid Agile acquisition program set to field in 2026. CMPC is replacing legacy systems with real-time collaboration, automation, and advanced mission planning capabilities for Navy and Marine Corps aircrew. The position requires hands-on experience with modern software technologies, large-scale Agile development, and DevSecOps practices to deliver innovative, warfighter-focused solutions. You will collaborate with a cross-service team, including the USAF and JPO, to develop and deploy mission-critical systems that improve planning, execution, and post-mission analysis across naval aviation platforms.
The selected candidate will be responsible for not limited to:
* Performs programmatic or technical knowledge identifying, formulating, designing, and/or testing practical solutions to engineering problems; guiding the engineering development of modern complex systems; and employing systems engineering methods and tools in the development of systems.
* Performs software acquisition functions, requirements management, and the understanding of software workflow.
* Performs software requirements analysis and decomposes them into system-level requirements.
* Applies systems engineering processes to the analysis, development, testing, and deployment of NGNMPS software.
* Analyzes, documents, and reviews NGNMPS emerging requirements.
* Evaluates the impact of changes to NGNMPS system requirements and interfaces.
* Participates in vendor technical interchange meetings and reviews vendor technical recommendations.
* Leads working groups to address engineering and technical challenges requiring analysis of alternatives.
* Engages with users to collect input and feedback for continuous improvement of NGNMPS.
* Coordinates with test and evaluation teams to assess NGNMPS software.
* Contributes to and provides peer review for technical white papers.
* Reviews vendor-produced MBSE models and contributes to MBSE system descriptions.
Conducts technical risk management and tracking.
* Participates in change management and configuration management processes and boards.
* Provides technical input and review for project plans, schedules, and roadmaps.
* Authors reports and briefs, delivers progress reviews, and presents technical analyses to NAVAIR leadership.
* Collaborates with leadership, engineers, vendors, and software leads within Agile development processes to evolve requirements into enhanced CMPC capabilities.
* Participates in Agile software development activities such as backlog grooming, prioritization, sprint reviews, program increment reviews, and capability evaluations.
* Assists with vendor tasking and oversight, including developing technical SOWs, participating in TIMs and PMRs, and reviewing CDRLs.
* Supports project planning efforts and develops technical cost estimates.

* Must have a bachelor's degree in a technical or scientific field from an accredited college or university.
* Must have at least three (3) years of recent and relevant experience.
* Demonstrated experience in an area of engineering expertise is required.
* Must have an active DoD Secret Clearance or higher.
* Must be a US Citizen
