				Overview:

Job Summary:

Manage all survey teams for a particular project(s) in all disciplines of construction including building, highway, bridge, and tunnel construction. Perform /oversee all survey calculations that allows for the accurate execution of a project over the life cycle of the project. 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

* Responsible for the safety of all assigned employees and subcontractors to ensure the safe execution of all activities, including the strict adherence to company safety policies and programs through the communication and enforcement of the Skanska Safety and Health Management Program, including the ability to independently stop work for a safety violation or suspected safety violation
* Manage/perform all construction related layout responsibilities
* Manage the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the project surveyors / survey crews and survey sub-contractors
* Establish Horizontal and Vertical Survey Control for the project. Record all data and create new control map with all associated control point data
* Preparation and maintenance of as-built drawing for the project
* Provide topographic and cross-section surveys as required for planning and placement quantities
* Establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with the client, government agencies, and the general public
* Analyze survey objectives and specifications to prepare survey proposals or to direct others in
* survey proposal preparation
* Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain to facilitate construction
* Direct or conduct surveys to establish legal boundaries for properties, based on legal deeds
* and/or design
* Prepare, maintain and coordinate sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys
* Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys
* Train assistants and helpers, and direct their work in such activities as performing surveys or drafting maps
* Verify the accuracy of given design survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites
* Ability to research and decide on specific survey equipment required for a particular project 
* Develop and manage Survey budget for projects

Education and Experience:

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree - Surveying, or Engineering preferred or equivalent experience.
* 5+ years of heavy civil and highway construction surveying experience.
* Advance knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
* Land Surveying License, RLS, PLS, PE preferred but experience maybe considered in lieu of

Preferred Qualifications:

* Practical knowledge of project management. 
* Computer proficient and the ability to adapt to new innovations (such as laser scanning) and processes
* Broad understanding of construction industry
* Strong written, communication, and problem-solving skills
* Strong time management and organizational skills
* Knowledge about safety regulations
* Able to effectively manage time
* Able to create and analyze graphical data such as topographical maps, horizontal/vertical curves etc.
* Able to lead a team and interface effectively with craft, client and management
* Have working knowledge of pertinent survey software such as ACAD
* Detail oriented able to work with high accuracy levels

* Building Tools and Technology: Identifies and uses the correct technology, equipment and tools necessary to complete the job.

Has demonstrated proficiency in:

* Building and Construction Knowledge - Planning: Applies building and construction knowledge, utilizing experience and current developments in the industry to prepare detailed construction sequence plans including all necessary material, equipment and labor.
* Plans and Specifications: Reads and interprets construction plans and the technical specifications to aid in constructability review. Ensures submittals are approved prior to proceeding with work.
* Project Cost Management: Monitors, tracks, and forecasts self-perform and subcontractor project costs and quantities, including labor, equipment, and materials to ensure projects are successful and profitable.
* Labor Relations: Application of labor standards and rules to the Work on projects to improve job site harmony and labor productivity.
* Quality Management: Establishes processes to meet quality standards. Monitors work practices to identify concerns or issues that do not meet these quality standards. Follows contract provisions for necessary corrective action.

Has a basic understanding of:

* Risk and Opportunity Management: Identifies potential risks related to operations, contracts, or project execution. Develops mitigation plans and strategies to control the impact of negative situations or to maximize opportunities throughout the life cycle of a project.
* Change Order Management : Follows financial implications of contracts and agreements to protect the company's interests and rights. Identifies compensable changes and follows the contract provisions to timely resolution.
* Safety: Ensures the safe execution of all work activities and ensures adherence to our safety regulations to protect all individuals. Verifies and coordinates work activities to comply with Skanska EHS program and corrects unsafe activities, actions and conditions.
* Subcontractor Oversight: Monitors, inspects and ensures subcontractors are performing the work safely, are adhering to schedule, and are producing quality work in line with subcontractor agreements and our client contract obligations.
* Design Management: Manages design development process and interfaces between design and construction to ensure and issue determinations on the constructability of deliverables

Travel Requirements: Less than 10%

Work Environment/Conditions: This job is performed both in the office and in the field on an active construction site. Field work requires experience and confidence working in and around heavy industrial equipment and systems, which includes average to loud noises, ability to traverse uneven grounds, and possible outdoor weather conditions. Vision requires the capacity for close and far vision, the ability to adjust focus, depth perception and peripheral vision. Activities and responsibilities require frequent sitting (often working on a computer), frequent driving, flying, walking, standing, light lifting, bending, and reaching. Due to computer usage, there may be repetitive motions of the hands and wrists.
