Overview:
The Surgical Technologist CVOR works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
Patient Care: Assists with patient care while complying with Novant Health policies and procedures and regulatory standards. Maintains clinical and professional surgical services competencies. Assists in maintaining the security of medications.
Communication: Practices effective interpersonal communication skills.
Physical Tasks: Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures. Scrubs, gowns, and gloves. Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure. Performs counts per Novant Health policy. Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants. Helps in draping sterile field. Pass instruments, etc., to surgeon during procedure. Maintains the highest standard of sterile technique during procedure. Prepares sterile dressings. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Assists other members of the team with cleaning of rooms. Assists in prepping room for the next patient.

Qualifications:
* Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology program or Military Training Equivalent (68D - Operating Room Specialist). For incumbents who are not graduates of an accredited School of Surgical Technology or have certification please see additional skills required. Soley, online Surgical Tech program credits will not be accepted - intern program graduates must meet online program and skill/competency assessment requirements.
* Experience: Previous Surgical Technologist experience, preferred.
* Additional Skills (required): For incumbents who are not graduates of an accredited School of Surgical Technology or have certification the following additional requirements may apply: new graduates must obtain certification within 12months of hire. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skill validation and competency testing. Demonstrate effective and appropriate customer service skills, verbal and nonverbal communication techniques, interpersonal relationship skills, and time management skills. Intern program graduates must meet online program and clinical skill/competency assessment requirements.
