Responsibilities:

Surgical Technologist Responsibilities:

The Surgical Technologist performs essential tasks and functions as an integral member of the surgical team, including:

* Operating Room Preparation:

* Prepares the operating room for surgical procedures, ensuring all equipment is functioning properly and safely.
* Prepares the operating room and the sterile field for surgical procedures by organizing sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment using strict sterile technique.

* Surgical Support:

* Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy and pathophysiology as it relates to the patient and surgical procedure.
* Independently performs tasks within the sterile field.
* Acts in the role of a scrub nurse in accordance with the patient's care plan and departmental staffing requirements.
* Anticipates both usual and unexpected events during surgical procedures and responds efficiently.

* Aseptic Practices & Safety:

* Adheres rigorously to aseptic practices, providing and maintaining a safe and sterile environment.

* Patient Care & Departmental Duties:

* Assists with patient care activities under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
* Performs additional duties according to department-specific expectations as identified and assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Education:

* Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.

Required Licensure & Certifications:

* Basic Life Support (BLS): Required upon hire. Acceptable certifications include:
* American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
* American Safety and Health Institute: CPR, PRO (must state "Professional Level-with AED")
* American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers

* Certification in Surgical Technology

Preferred Qualifications:

* 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
