Responsibilities:
Job Summary:
Performs a range of support activities that primarily include procuring, tracking, maintaining and safeguarding all OR supplies, instrumentation and equipment to ensure that OR schedules are executed in an efficient, timely and cost-effective manner.
Work includes assisting in the preparation and administration of the budget for OR supplies and capital equipment, and the collection/review of data to identify cost savings/expense reduction opportunities. An incumbent works closely with OR Finance team and Materials Management to ensure proper new product process, and to include handling of OR supplies, charge tickets, procedure cards, case carts and materials management inventory.
Essential Job Functions:
Coordinate all OR supplies and equipment needed to ensure all OR schedules are met.
* Coordinates the supplies, instrumentation and equipment loaned/borrowed as well as supplies, instruments and equipment sent from other hospitals and vendors to ensure that surgical procedures are conducted without undue delay or interruption; maintains files on these transactions.
* Works with materials management in assessing orders for stock/non-stock items prior to purchase; maintains a current balance of supplies, equipment and instrumentation to avoid excess inventory.
* Monitors supply/implant expiration dates; identifies and pulls outdated stock and disposes of in accordance with established procedures, including returns to the manufacturer as appropriate.
* Coordinates with representatives of various companies/vendors to ensure timely replacement of prosthesis and consignment items; logs total joint procedures and completes requisition for replacement items(s).
* Reviews OR schedule to identify the need for "special" instrumentation and makes arrangements to ensure timely availability; maintains equipment and instruments in working condition, obtains loaners when needed.
* If assigned to St. Elizabeth Hospital, responsible for the ordering, stocking and rotation of anesthesia supplies and equipment. Performs periodic checks of anesthesia equipment in accordance with FHS Policies and Procedures and manufacturer instructions.
Identifies opportunities to realize cost savings and reduce expenses; evaluates quality and cost of supplies, equipment and instrumentation from manufacturers; independently orders supplies and equipment within assigned scope of authority.
* Maintains awareness of charge ticket process, materials management inventory and procedure card process.
Tracks and maintains all related documentation/files in accordance with department procedures.
* Tracks the status of back-ordered items and keeps OR staff informed.
* Communicates information on repair invoices and repair totals on a monthly basis.
* Enters data into the computer for tracking supplies used, in compliance with applicable regulations.
Qualifications:
Education/Work Experience Requirements
Two years of related work experience in an acute care hospital that demonstrates the attainment of the requisite job knowledge, skills and abilities.
