Responsibilities:
The following duties are intended to be representative of the work performed by incumbents in this position and is not all-inclusive. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical extension of position responsibilities.
* Care coordination by ensuring that all necessary medical records are available for physician review prior to patient consultation. Coordination may be with internal or external partners.
* Address patient needs over the phone (inbound and outbound calls) or via Cerner box. Call and message types include skill-task aligned triaging of medical needs, scheduling pre-op/consult/post-op appointments, care coordination, patient contact along with coordination with outside referring providers.
* May oversee day of visit patient flow, rooming and assisting patients to navigate their visits
* Surgery and Procedure scheduling using Surginet or other scheduling systems. This process includes patient education, case coordination, resource scheduling, and screening and coordination of supportive services (pre-anesthesia assessment clinic, social work, nutrition, anesthesia pain, and therapy/rehabilitation).
* Coordination requires understanding of assigned providers' preferences and the needs of the patient population within the medical center.
* Coordinates with internal and external clinics to ensure all patient records are available.
* Prepares the surgical chart with all necessary paperwork; ensures all surgery related work is completed and delivered to the appropriate areas by the designated time. Organizes physician order sheets daily according to the schedule. Assembles department additions to the chart.
* Submits necessary information and documentation for insurance authorization and obtains authorization for surgery from the patient's insurance company. Coordinates with providers outside of the VM system.
Qualifications:
* Two (2) years experience in a medical office environment with knowledge of medical surgical terminology
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to use a computer
* Strong organizational skills
* The ability to work under pressure
* The ability to participate as a member of a team
* Reliability and punctuality
* Excellent customer service and public relations skills
* Experience/certification in department specialty may also be required
Preferred:
* Experience with IBM/Cerner/IDX applications
