				Overview:

The Security Supervisor is responsible to supervise the performance and activities of Security Officers. Provides direction, and leadership to security personnel on duty for assigned shift.  Protects life and property of all persons on hospital premises, patrols hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft and vandalism. Secures, unlocks and protects hospital buildings. Responds to security needs of hospital personnel, patients and visitors. Participates in performance improvement activities.

Responsibilities:

* Supervises staff by inspection of uniforms and work areas, creating assignments, frequently supervising security officers on their posts and enforcing security rules of conduct.
* Provides visible deterrence to crime and prohibited activities by patrolling all buildings and grounds of the hospital, inspects doors, windows, and locks while ensuring an adequate level of security is maintained throughout the facility.
* Ensures only authorized personnel are admitted onto hospital premises.
* Responds quickly and effectively to all requests for service.
* Escorts visitors, patients and personnel to and from all hospital areas, parking lots or other perimeter locations as needed or when requested.
* Participates in fire drills and serves as a member of the Fire Control Team.
* Investigates incidents of unusual circumstances reported by hospital personnel, visitors, physicians or patients and reports all incidents, verbally or through a Security Incident form, prior to the conclusion of each shift.
* Writes accurate, clear and legible incident reports.  Properly documents all investigatory steps and the results.
* Responds to emergency calls for assistance, including the control of disorderly or combative patients and visitors.
* Assists in restraining patients when necessary.
* Removes unauthorized persons from the facility and enforces the identification badge policy.
* Controls parking in hospital parking lots, prevents blocking of driveways and entrances to Emergency Department.
* Detects and prevents pilfering, larceny, malicious mischief, burglary and destruction of hospital property.
* Inspects outgoing parcels as necessary to prevent theft of hospital property.
* Reports all safety and fire hazards observed on routine patrols and inspections.
* Assists and gives courteous responses to any inquiries made by patients, visitors or personnel.
* Monitors the hospital using electronic security equipment, such as closed circuit TV, alarms, etc.
* Transports blood specimens, x-rays, lab slips, etc. between facilities and other hospitals when requested.
* Initiates action to stop violence or threats of violence against hospital staff, patients or visitors.  Prevents or terminates incidents or loud music or other excessive noise when possible.
* Performs other duties as required

Qualifications:

Education:

* Requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma, or GED.
* Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience:

* Three to five (3-5) years experience in the field of law enforcement and/or security management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

* Knowledge of investigative procedures, de-escalating violence, hospital security, infant/child abduction and protection mechanisms.
* Familiarity with Office PC's, Desktops, and Laptop software in addition to familiarity with Microsoft Office softwares to include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
* Good interpersonal skills a must.
* Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Additional languages preferred.

Physical Requirements:

* Position may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, talking, sitting, hearing, and bending throughout the work day.  
* May include some repetitive motions.
