Overview: Supervisor Nursing Services- Younker 8- Methodist Full-Time Benefit Eligible Younker 8 cares for a variety of acute care patients, specializing in respiratory diagnoses, diabetic ketoacidosis, and acute or chronic medical conditions. The unit partners the Physician Internal Medicine Residency Program and is involved in many new patient care initiatives. Collaboration, teamwork, and innovation lead the team as we care for our acute patient populations. Responsibilities: * Integrates the UnityPoint Health Des Moines Nursing Expectations of Performance in all aspects of care delivery and professional practice. * Manages daily operations of patient care. Contributes to the maintenance of high quality, cost effective services consistent with the needs of the users and the hospital's budgetary guidelines. * Provides clinical leadership by directing, coordinating and delegating patient care in an organized manner, allowing for flexibility. * Acts as an interdepartmental liaison promoting effective multidisciplinary team work. * Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes. * Remains competent and available to participate in patient care pertinent to clinical specialty. * Demonstrates personal and professional growth and promotes the same among team members. * Exhibits discretion and sound judgment in all aspects of the job. * Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations affecting patient care. Remains current on law/regulation changes, recognizes implications to the organization and recommends courses of action to ensure compliance. * Assists in the development of policy/procedure and guidelines for safe, efficient operation of the department as needed. * Assists in developing annual budget, and takes action when appropriate to maintain control of department financial resources. * Implements evidence based practice strategies to meet the patient care needs. Assists in the achievement of quality improvement objectives and takes necessary modifications for attainment of goals. * Interviews, orients, trains, schedules, evaluate, disciplines, and terminate staff with appropriate input. Demonstrates the ability to fairly and consistently interpret, apply and follow personnel policies/procedures. * Represents UPHDM in a professional manner. Promotes positive interpersonal relations and serves as a role model within the department and with hospital personnel. * Creates an environment that promotes staff empowerment. * Displays creativity and innovation when making recommendations for improvement in the delivery of services to the hospital. * Is able to instruct and lead the staff so that a high level of productivity is maintained, intervening when necessary to problem solve. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree. BSN preferred. Experience: Two years experience as registered nurse. Experience in specialty area preferred. License(s)/Certification(s): Current Iowa license as a registered nurse. Current BCLS (CPR). Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional educational and lifestyle backgrounds. Knowledge of basic computer skills. #DMFD123
