				Overview:

Shift: Monday-Friday | 8:30am-5pm or 6:30am-3pm dependent on the surgical schedule

Assists in managing the day-to-day operations of the Operating Room, Central sterile processing, and preop/pacu services, utilizing quality, cost effective patient care principles.  Provides support and direction to the surgical services team. Supervises, supports, and develops unit staff.    As a member of the Surgical Services team assists in providing perioperative nursing care to the surgical patient. Consistently utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area).

Responsibilities:

* Manages daily operations of patient care. Contributes to the maintenance of high-quality, cost-effective services consistent with the needs of the users and the hospital's budgetary guidelines. 
* Provides clinical leadership by directing, coordinating, and delegating patient care in an organized manner, allowing for flexibility. 
* Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes. 
* Remains competent and available to participate in patient care pertinent to clinical specialty. 
* Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations affecting patient care. Remains current on law/regulation changes, recognizes implications to the organization and recommends courses of action to ensure compliance. 
* Assists in the development of policy/procedure and guidelines for safe, efficient operation of the department as needed.
* Assists in developing annual budget and takes appropriate action when appropriate to maintain control of department financial resources. 
* Implements evidence-based practice strategies to meet the patient care needs. Assists in the achievement of quality improvement objectives and takes necessary modifications for attainment of goals.
* Participates in interviews, coaching and evaluation of team member performance with appropriate input. Demonstrates the ability to interpret, apply and follow HR policies/procedures fairly and consistently. 
* Publishes a timely, fair, consistent, and impartial staffing schedule that meets the department need.
* Supervises, supports, evaluates, and guides staff providing appropriate input for job performance.
* Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.

Qualifications:

Education: 

* Bachelor's Degree

Experience: 

* One year experience as a registered nurse

License(s)/Certifications: 

* Current Iowa License as a registered nurse
