Nurse Supervisor - 5 East Medical-Surgical Unit

Shift: Days M-F; Hours may vary based on business needs

We're excited to announce the opening of 5 East, a brand-new 15-bed medical-surgical unit providing acute care services to inpatients and observation patients. This unit specializes in General Medical/Surgical, Pulmonary, and Medical Detox, and may support patients requiring remote telemetry. Our patient population includes adults, aging adults, and pediatric patients aged 14 and older.
About the Role
The Nurse Supervisor will assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the unit, ensuring quality, cost-effective patient care. This role supervises, supports, and develops unit staff while fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.

You will consistently apply a holistic approach to care-considering physical, psychosocial, spiritual, educational, and safety needs appropriate to the age and condition of patients served.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee daily operations of the 5 East unit.
* Support and mentor nursing staff to promote professional growth.
* Ensure compliance with quality standards and patient safety protocols.
* Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional care.
* Maintain efficient workflows and resource utilization.

Responsibilities:

* Manages daily operations of patient care. Contributes to the maintenance of high quality, cost effective services consistent with the needs of the users and the hospital's budgetary guidelines.   
* Provides clinical leadership by directing, coordinating and delegating patient care in an organized manner, allowing for flexibility.   
* Acts as an interdepartmental liaison promoting effective multidisciplinary teamwork.   
* Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.   
* Participates in patient care pertinent to each clinical specialty.   
* Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations affecting patient care. Remains current on law/regulation changes, recognizes implications to the organization and recommends courses of action to ensure compliance.   
* Assists in the development of policy/procedure and guidelines for safe, efficient operation of the department.   
* Assists in developing annual budget, authorizes expenditures according to the signature authorization policy and monitors performance; takes corrective action when appropriate to maintain control of financial resources.   
* Researches and recommends short and long term strategies to meet the patient care needs. Assists with the achievement of objectives and necessary modifications for attainment of goals.   
* Interviews, coordinates orientation, schedules, and evaluates new employees. Disciplines, and terminates staff with appropriate input. Demonstrates the ability to fairly and consistently interpret, apply and follow personnel policies/procedures.   
* Participates in professional organizations and community related projects, for personal and professional development representing UPH in a positive manner.   

Qualifications:

* Education: Nursing Degree, Bachelor's Degree
* Experience: One year experience as a registered nurse.
* Licensure: Current Iowa RN license required, Current BCLS (CPR)
