Overview:
Directs, leads, and manages the day-to-day technical activities of Zebra's hardware test labs at the Ontario Design Center. This role is responsible for supervising a multi-disciplinary team of engineering technicians who perform critical hands-on testing for new product development. The Supervisor will coordinate activities across a diverse portfolio of labs, including Mechanical Engineering (ME), Electrical Engineering (EE), Radio Frequency (RF), EMI, and overall Product Qualification, ensuring that product validation aligns with project timelines and Zebra's high standards for quality and reliability.
This role is a hybrid position and requires a minimum of three days per week in our Mississaugua, ON office. Zebra reserves the right to modify your work location based on business need.
Responsibilities:
* Assigns, prioritizes, and oversees the daily work of engineering technicians across all hardware test labs (ME, EE, RF, EMI, Qualification). Ensures test procedures are executed safely, correctly, and efficiently.
* Manages and balances test requests from multiple engineering teams using a combination of Jira and a legacy MS Access-based work request system, ensuring clear communication of status, priorities, and potential bottlenecks.
* Coaches and develops technicians in the fundamentals of hardware testing. A key focus will be on building the team's institutional knowledge by explaining the "why" behind testing methodologies, moving beyond simple execution to a deeper understanding of test purpose and failure analysis.
* Represents the test technician team in project meetings. Monitors progress against deliverables, reports on test status, and collaborates with design engineering teams to diagnose and replicate product failures.
* When necessary, leverages their own technical expertise to assist with complex test setup, execution, and troubleshooting of prototype electro-mechanical systems and specialized test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, signal generators, environmental chambers).
* Identifies actual or potential problems in test plans or lab processes and suggests improvements to drive efficiency and effectiveness. Assists in maintaining documentation of test operations and results.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field) with 5+ years of experience.
* Experience in hands-on hardware test and validation environment.
* Experience working with project tracking or ticketing systems (e.g., Jira, Confluence, or similar)
* Demonstrated experience with a variety of test and measurement equipment used in at least one of the following areas: Mechanical/Environmental (drop, tumble, thermal), Electrical (ESD, power), or RF/EMI (emissions, antenna performance).
Preferred Qualifications:
* Proven experience leading or mentoring junior technicians or engineers is highly desirable.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Salary: CAD $60,000 - CAD $110,000 yearly
In addition to base pay, Zebra offers this role the opportunity to earn a performance-based annual cash incentive, at a target equal to 10% of base pay, in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
