Overview:
This position will prepare quarterly financial packages, statutory reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, analyses, journal entries, compliance filings, and work on projects. This position will also work with data cubes and accounting hubs and prepare ad hoc financial analyses. The Accountant III will collaborate with other departments within the finance organization, including the underwriting, claims, actuarial, reinsurance, treasury, and compliance departments.
Responsibilities:
* Review and contribute to the preparation of P&C Statutory annual and quarterly statement schedules and filings, including coordinating information from data suppliers and consolidating responses, in accordance with Statutory accounting principles
* Ensure the accuracy, consistency and integrity of data reported in Statutory schedules
* Ensure compliance with all NAIC and state department of insurance regulatory reporting requirements, researching compliance requirements as deemed necessary
* Work closely with team members to coordinate monthly and quarterly close processes
* Review ad hoc journal entries as they arise
* Review technical balance sheet reconciliations for the team to review, investigate and resolve differences
* Proven ability to actively address multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring flexibility to meet deadlines
* Generate support and analysis in conjunction with requests from internal and external auditors, including a bridge from GAAP to STAT balances with reasoning for variances
* Ability to research requests from upper management and communicate findings in a timely manner
* Perform various analyses and reach out to responsible parties with recommended corrective actions to make appropriate adjustments to ledgers and statements
* Liaison with other Corporate areas (Controllers, GAAP Reporting, Management Reporting, Investments, Regulatory Reporting, Tax, Treasury, FP&A)
* Evaluate and implement processes for efficiency and automation; work with operational team to find workable solutions
* Develop, maintain, and improve accounting internal controls, policies, and procedures
* Maintain a mindset of continuous improvement
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
* 6 - 9 years professional experience in financial reporting or financial analysis with knowledge of accounting, including minimum of 2+ years of insurance accounting/finance industry experience
* Proven technology-based skills including proficiency in Microsoft Excel
* Ability to analyze and problem solve financial data
* Hybrid, 3 days in office required, 2 days remote per week
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with all levels
* Working knowledge of Oracle ERP preferred
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines
* Overtime may be needed during peak periods
