Overview: UnityPoint-St Luke's College Part-Time with Benefits 9-Month Faculty Position August through May Days/Eves/Some Wknds As part of the College team, provides professional customer service to anyone who enters the library. Understands the importance of attention to detail in all aspects of bookstore management, customer service, and maintenance of the library catalog. As a member of the College team the Student Success Assistant oversees the management of the library collection to ensure content meets the needs of all patrons. This position also establishes and maintains systems for assuring effective and efficient library services, including policies and procedures, automation systems, reference systems, and staffing practices. Promotes the library's services within all patron groups, UnityPoint Health, and the community. Additional responsibilites will include teaching in the discipline specific to their educational background and competence. The Instructor develops course materials, instructional techniques and learning experiences for students. The Instructor is expected to plan, organize, and teach in a manner consistent with the College's mission and values. The Instructor promotes and directs successful learning in an environment that encourages student involvement and success. Responsibilities: Customer Services * Assure reference materials available to assist students, staff, faculty, physicians, patients, families, and other users * Review and assess databases and trials new databases * Promote and educate all users on library services * Represent UPH in library cooperatives and professional organizations to assure collaboration in sharing of collection resources. * Conduct workshops/educational sessions as needed Tutoring and Proctoring * Identify and recommend students to apply as tutors * Manage the interview and selection process of new tutors * Assist students to develop effective study and time management skills as related to academic requirements * Provide one on one tutoring, group workshops, and other activities designed to help students in the area of general education courses and programmatic courses, both virtually and face to face. * Provide training sessions/workshops for advisors and tutors. * Manage and assist in the testing facilities, test procturing and testing accommodations for all ADA requests. * Maintain current knowledge and application of writing according to American Psychological Association (APA) writing style requirements * Provide supplemental instruction in area of need * Maintain an applicable electronic database for tracking activities and the students use of the Success Center * Collaborate with Student Success Center Coordinator Advising * Responsible for providing academic advising and related services to students including orientation, registration assistance and academic monitoring * Provide information about academic requirements, appropriate selection of courses, academic planning, registration, and add/withdrawal for classes * Assist in the develpment of accademic plans in collaboration with faculty and student * Maintain an applicable electronic database for tracking activities and the students use of the Success Center Student Retention * Assess student needs and collaborate with faculty in the development of remediation/action plans for critical thinking skills for all levels of students * Monitor student's progress by receiving faculty evaluations and follow up with students who may be experienceing academic difficulty * Work with at-risk student population from Faculty Referral List data, probation plans as well as maintaining any tracking and follow up information Teaching * Provides online didactic instruction and experiential learning supervision for students as assigned * Selects course materials, instructional aids, and learning experiences with pedagogical elements consistent with mode of delivery * Utilizes a variety of instructional straegies to engage students * Monitor student performance and provides assistance when needed * Create and distribute a course syllabus that clearly outlines important college policies and guidelines, course objectives, learning outcomes and course requirements * Select textbooks and other resources for the assigned course in collaboration with the College Success Center * Maintains knowledge of program policies and procedures * Document students' academic progress by providing and grading assignments, progects and examinations that lead to final course grade * Maintain record of student attendance and involvement, reporting issues to Registrar * Provdie regular and timely feedback to students about due dates and grading * Communicates appropriately and professionally when working with the students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders * Works effectively with meeting deadlines * Demonstrates a positive attitude and professional role modeling behavior * Pursues knowledge of educational methodologies through continuing professional development Qualifications: * Master's Degree with a minimum of 18 credits of coursework in the field or discipline of teaching * Previous teaching experience with evidence of success * Certifications as required by the discipline or identified in the teaching agreement * Instructional, communication and interpersonal skills * Use of usual and customary equipment
