Job Summary

*This is an on-site position 

The Step Aerobics Instructor is responsible for leading safe, engaging, and effective step aerobics classes for members of various fitness levels. This role promotes healthy living and helps participants improve cardiovascular endurance, coordination, and overall fitness in a fun and welcoming environment that aligns with the YMCA's core values.

Hiring Range: $20.76 - $24.20/hour DOE

*Instructors are paid for class time, as well as the 15 minutes before and after a class.

Responsibilities:

* Plan and lead high-energy step aerobics classes using safe, effective techniques.
* Deliver clear instructions and demonstrations tailored to all fitness levels.
* Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during class.
* Provide modifications for different fitness abilities and needs.
* Arrive on time, prepared, and with appropriate music and equipment.
* Create a motivating and inclusive environment in line with YMCA values.
* Build positive relationships with members to encourage consistent participation.
* Monitor attendance and report any incidents or equipment issues.
* Stay current with group exercise trends, techniques, and safety standards.

Code of Conduct for Applicants

Qualifications:

* High school education or equivalent preferred. 
* Twenty-five hours of practical experience as fitness class instructor, or equivalent (6-week instructor training course-shadowing experience).
* Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
* Ability to set up, move and store class equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

* 
Current state approved first aid certification. *
Current state approved CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.*Knowledge of, and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
* YMCA Healthy Lifestyles Principles, Foundations of YMCA Group Exercise** or previous YMCA or outside certification.
* Listen First Level I* and II** training.

*       Within 30 days of employment or at first available training.

**     Within 90 days of employment or at first available training.

Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

Expected Hours of Work: Branch operational hours that may include mornings, evenings, and weekends.
