Responsibilities: Candidates must be willing to participate in at least one in-person interview, which may include a live whiteboarding or technical assessment session. EchoStar is building the next generation of AI-enabled capabilities to connect consumers with the products and platforms of tomorrow. We are currently tackling the challenge of scaling complex AI subsystems, such as Vector Search and Agent Orchestration, from experimental concepts into resilient production environments. As a Staff Engineer, you will solve these engineering hurdles by architecting serverless, event-driven infrastructures that bridge the gap between advanced models and seamless developer workflows. What Success Looks Like (Objectives) * Production-ready ownership of the full lifecycle for critical platform domains, ensuring high-quality, tested, and documented delivery. * Scalable architecture of serverless workflows and event-driven systems that support complex, asynchronous AI agent tasks. * Technical leadership of engineering squads by translating high-level department OKRs into executable tasks and successful sprint completions. * Reliable system performance through the implementation of robust monitoring focused on AI-specific metrics like model quality and relevance. * Enhanced "Developer Experience" achieved through iterative platform improvements based on direct collaboration with application engineers. * Accelerated development cycles and improved code quality through the strategic leverage of AI coding assistants and automation. Qualifications: Core Skills and Competencies (What you'll bring) * Expertise in architecting scalable backend systems and high-performance APIs utilizing Python. * Deep proficiency in Vector Databases and the implementation of semantic search technologies. * Strong skills in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and the management of complex AWS cloud services. * Critical experiences leading technical squads and mentoring engineers through the delivery of high-stakes backend infrastructure. * Professional collaboration and communication skills centered on a "winning together" team mindset. * AI Innovation through the mastery and application of AI coding assistants to optimize engineering velocity. Additional Qualifications * Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field. Minimum Requirements * Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical field. * Minimum Experience: 7 years of experience in software engineering with a focus on backend systems. * Required Technical Skills: Must have at least 5 years of experience with: * Python and API development * Vector Databases and semantic search * Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) * AWS Cloud Services (specifically Lambda and event-driven architecture)
