The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Science and Health Advisor, American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology guidelines. The successful candidate will be considered a joint employee of the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology (ACC).  The location of the selected candidate is flexible, provided the location allows for effective and cost-efficient travel.

Responsibilities:

* Supervise and mentor at least two American Heart Association / ACC science and health advisors, guidelines, ensuring their work and volunteer management efforts are effectively supported and managed. 
* Drive project management efforts by directly independently supporting at least one guideline writing and peer review committee(s) to develop and produce Clinical Practice Guideline documents, including manuscript preparation for organizational approval oversight and publication in a scientific journal.
* Collaborate strategically with the National Senior Director, Product Healthcare Manager, and Operations Analyst to support and manage the guideline development budget, priorities, and timeliness of projects in alignment with guideline optimization efforts.
* Collaborate with the Product Manager, Healthcare, to train volunteers and staff in the structured content management system to write and review content, to identify bugs and critical errors that require resolution, and to suggest features and enhancements that improve the effectiveness and efficiency to accomplish the work.
* Serve as the key liaison with the American Heart Association and ACC publishing teams to ensure the timely publication of all guidelines.
* Serve as the primary liaison and project manager for assigned guideline writing and peer review committees, including planning, scheduling, and facilitating committee agendas and meetings. Supervise the process from conception to publication.
* Maintain knowledge and ensure compliance with American Heart Association policies, procedures, relationships with industry, and related documentation requirements. 
* Identify and develop relationships with expert volunteers for guideline writing and reviewing, leading to real-time draft development, virtual and/or face-to-face meetings, and consensus conferences. 
* Support writing committee literature review and preparation of evidence tables and clinical practice recommendations including supporting text and references. 
* Utilize existing web-based platforms to track the progress of guideline projects, volunteers, and guideline components to report on the project schedule, status, and deadlines.
* Provide guidance on program improvements by analyzing feedback, monitoring performance metrics, and identifying opportunities for enhancement. 
* Proofread final, board-approved documents for accuracy, format, and style; and prepare files for delivery to journal publishers.
* Participate in professional meetings such as the American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions (Spring), American Heart Association Scientific Sessions (Fall) and guideline writing committee and peer review committee meetings (virtual kick-off meetings and consensus conferences throughout the year), as needed.
* Performs other duties as the need arises or assigned which are reasonably within the scope and responsibility of the job level.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study.
* Minimum of Five (5) years of experience in medical or health research writing or editing.
* Prior healthcare content or Project Management experience.
* A minimum of three to five years' experience being responsible for guideline development. 
* A minimum of three to five years' experience managing direct reports.
* Excellent communications, customer service, and volunteer management skills.
* Demonstrated ability to prioritise multiple, sophisticated projects in varying stages of development.
* Knowledge of systematic evidence review, development of evidence tables, and clinical research. 
* Excellent prioritization and time management skills as well as the ability to work well under strict deadlines and high production requirements.
* Outstanding writing, proofreading/editing, spelling, and grammar skills as well as attention to detail and accuracy in all written communications.
* Proficiency using Microsoft Office Programs, EndNote, Adobe, and web-based platforms for tracking project status, componentized content management, and volunteer engagement.
* Must be able to travel overnight, approximately. 15% of the time. ​

Preferred Qualifications

* Advanced degree in Public Health, Epidemiology or related Health or Medical Research.
* Experience with medical writing, proofreading, and editing.
* Experience in association or similar environment with customer service orientation and committee management.
* Familiarity with workflow management software and structured content management software.
