The American Heart Association's Voices for Healthy Kids initiative is seeking a Senior Policy Analyst (Flexible work arrangements available)
The ideal Senior Policy Analyst is self-directed and will have outstanding research and writing skills, an attention to detail, the ability to make complex information easily digestible to broad audiences, familiarity with the issues within the Voices for Healthy Kids policy portfolio, and experience in public policy work.
This is a full time, grant-funded, benefits-eligible opportunity. Current funding is through 12/31/2025 with strong confidence in continued funding beyond 2025.

Responsibilities:
* Monitor, research, analyze, and advise on state and local legislation within and related to the Voices for Healthy Kids policy portfolio.
* Review and provide guidance on proposed state and local legislation.
* Draft legislation.
* Conduct legislative and regulatory research and analysis.
* The American Heart Association's Goal Guidance document defines, informs, and guides policy priorities in states and communities. Goal Guidance serves as a minimum set of requirements to declare a policy change as a policy outcome success. This role will need to fully understand Goal Guidance and be able to answer technical legal questions on the policies and provide technical consultation and support on issues within the Voices for Healthy Kids portfolio.
* Support and inform the American Heart Association's approach to technical assistance for state and local campaigns.
* Manage internal processes for creating, updating, and/or editing policy guidance within the Voices For Healthy Kids portfolio within Goal Guidance.
* Track and report on policy successes related to the Voices for Healthy Kids policy portfolio.
* Demonstrate effective relationship management with external contractors and partners.
* Interact with relevant staff, partners, and thought leaders to facilitate knowledge sharing and learning.
* Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* Minimum of five (5) years of experience in public policy and/or legal research with a demonstrated understanding of the public policy issues within the Voices for Healthy Kids portfolio.
* Master's degree in political science, public health, public administration or related area (preferred) or relevant expereince.
* Law degree from an ABA accredited law school strongly preferred.
* Excellent analytical skills and oral and written communication ability.
* Knowledge of local, state and federal government structures and their processes with the ability to assess state and local legislative and regulatory environments.
* Skilled in interpersonal communications and exhibits the ability to effectively work with staff and external partners. Able to influence without authority.
* Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
* Must have the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with varying levels of complexity and under variable timelines.
