Responsibilities:
We are in need of an experienced Data Platform Engineer to join our Core Infrastructure team. As part of this role, you will be instrumental in migrating our database services from traditional infrastructure to fully handled, cloud-native, and automated platforms. Key Responsibilities
* Cloud Migration Expertise: Apply in-depth knowledge of migration strategies from IaaS (e.g., SQL Server on EC2) to PaaS platforms. Demonstrate a strong ability to modernize database environments while ensuring operational continuity.
* Assist in platform modernization decisions by suggesting PaaS solutions like RDS or equivalent experience.
* SQL Performance Optimization: Analyze and optimize SQL queries across cloud-based environments such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on EC2. Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks to improve query execution times.
* Database Migration Planning: Lead the planning and execution of database migrations from on-premises SQL Server to cloud platforms like AWS RDS and Azure SQL, ensuring minimal disruption and data integrity.
* High Availability & Security: Manage and improve high availability configurations (e.g., multi-subnet Always On) for Azure SQL Managed Instance and AWS RDS or equivalent experience. Implement secure operations using RBAC, encryption, and AWS KMS across all platforms.
* Establish and enforce database and application server retention policies in line with standard processes for cloud-native environments.
* On-Call Support: Participate in on-call rotations, including weekends, holidays, and after-hours, to maintain 24/7 availability and ensure timely incident response for cloud-based database systems.
* Proven experience as a Senior SQL DBA or Data Platform Engineer, with a strong focus on cloud-native database technologies including Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, and AWS RDS/Aurora.
* Practical experience with managed database services such as AWS RDS, AWS Aurora, and Azure SQL Database, including configuration, performance tuning, and scaling in production environments.
* Demonstrated ability to lead database migrations from on-premises or IaaS environments to PaaS platforms such as Azure SQL Database and AWS Aurora.
* Solid understanding of SQL query optimization in cloud environments, including tuning queries, transactions, and stored procedures to improve performance across managed services.
* Proficient in cloud database architecture, including indexing, partitioning, storage, and caching strategies tailored for PaaS platforms.
* Skilled in scripting with Python or SQL for database automation, performance optimization, and integration with cloud-native workflows.
* Familiar with additional cloud database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL solutions on AWS or Azure, with a flexible approach to embracing new technologies.
Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications
* Certification in database administration (e.g., Microsoft Certified Database Administrator).
* Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, and automation frameworks like Ansible, Python, or PowerShell.
* Exposure to modern data engineering tools and platforms, including Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure Data Factory (ADF), and Azure Databricks, along with relevant Python libraries.
