Gannett Fleming TranSystems is seeking a Senior Construction Inspector to join our dynamic Construction Services Group in Toronto, ON. This role follows a on-site work model, requiring regular attendance at one of our Toronto project, offices.
 
What you'll be challenged to do:

As a Senior Construction Inspector, you will immerse yourself in complex construction projects, focusing on heavy civil works, such as tunnel launch shafts, deep excavation, and heavy piling operations. You will take on new challenges as you oversee every aspect of construction near active rail corridors, spearheading the supervision of crane operations, and ensuring the seamless execution of projects around CN freight rail lines. This role not only hones your skills in intricate problem solving but also prepares you for broader leadership roles through expansive career development opportunities.
 
In this capacity, you will be responsible for the following:
* Perform daily site inspections to ensure construction activities align with project plans, specifications, and applicable regulations.
* Oversee the construction of launch shafts, deep excavation pits, and heavy piling works with precision and attention to detail.
* Monitor and document crane operations, including hoisting of steel cages near open shafts and tunnel zones to ensure safety and efficiency.
* Enforce strict compliance with rail corridor safety protocols, particularly in proximity to CN freight operations.
* Work collaboratively with contractors, engineers, rail safety coordinators, and third-party stakeholders to synchronize daily operations.
* Verify the proper installation and alignment of structural components, including rebar cages, concrete forms, and anchor systems, leveraging your expertise.
* Oversee environmental controls, dewatering systems, and support-of-excavation structures (e.g., secant piles, slurry walls) effectively.
* Prepare and maintain comprehensive field reports, photos, and inspection logs using advanced digital tools and systems.
* Engage in construction meetings and support critical construction milestones with your technical insight.

Qualifications:

What you will bring to our firm: 
* A minimum education requirement of a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
* P.Eng., OACETT Designation (C.E.T, C.Tech, A.Sc.T)
* Minimum of 10+years of construction engineering experience, including field construction and contract administration in the Toronto, ON/ GTA area
* Experience in inspecting mechanical and/or electrical systems and supervising construction sites
* Direct knowledge and experience with large-scale construction involving deep foundation elements, steel reinforcement cages, and tunnel-adjacent infrastructure
* Exceptional attention to detail and a focus on enhancing processes
* Capability to engage in cross-functional collaboration and problem solving in complex scenarios.
* Experience working in live rail corridors

* Demonstrated experience with large-scale transit projects or transportation infrastructure.
* Experience in implementing best practices and innovative solutions.
* Experience in resolving claims and working in both office and field environments.
* Experience with Class 1 Railway and working within a right of way.
* Knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and local transit operation regulations.
* Prior experience operating in close proximity to CN freight rail lines with a high safety-conscious mindset.
* Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
* Strong communication, listening, and organizational skills.
* Strong leadership qualities and a proven track record in managing and leading small projects.
* Valid driver's license and flexibility to travel to construction sites for extended periods and work outside of normal business hours.
