The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Sr. Bequest Administrator in our Mission Advancement department!

This position will work in a hybrid setting (in office 2 days a week at a minimum) in our St. Petersburg, Florida office.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the estate administration process for gifts from wills, trusts, split-interest agreements, perpetual trusts, and other testamentary instruments.  Responsible for managing and processing distributions from various estate sources.  Oversees bequest-related litigation and handles liquidation of any real estate received in-kind through the bequest process.  Reports to and fills in for the VP-Estate Settlement as needed.

* Monitors, reviews, and processes legal documentation, trust statements, and related materials for bequest distribution requirements and restrictions
* Maintains and ensures data and donor information is accurate and up to date in both electronic database and electronic document depository
* Communicates and coordinates bequest activities with estate/trust representatives and attorneys. Collaborate with all parties to resolve concerns or issues.  Processes receipts for liquidation of estate assets
* Maintains accurate records for split-interest and perpetual trusts and provides information for correct financial recording of assets and audit review
* Serves as point person on all bequest-related litigation

Qualifications:

* Paralegal 
* At least three (3) years of experience
* Knowledge of estate planning techniques, probate & trust administration
* Ability to manage litigation, including cost-benefit analysis of pursuing/hiring counsel
* Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with minimal supervision
* Strong written and oral communication skills; good negotiation skills
* Ability to use MS Office products
* Ability to travel up to 5% local and overnight stay

Preferred Experience:

* Juris Doctor (J.D.) (law degree)
* Ability to work with staff in a collaborative "supervision-light" way
* Public speaking abilities
* Knowledge and understanding of real estate transaction activities
* Knowledge and understanding of non-profit accounting procedures
