PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Sr Accountant at our Tysons, Virginia location.  The primary purpose of this job is to apply comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles in performing complex duties related to the processing and recording of Shared Services transactions. This position will work with outside vendors, auditors and others to analyze and provide information on operational, reporting, or system impact related to policy changes and new products; contribute to special projects; and may train staff.

Responsibilities:

* Compile, review, analyze, and record financial information to the general ledger. Complete monthly closings.
* Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts on a timely basis, follow-up on any reconciling items, and prepare monthly journal entries in PeopleSoft Financials systems.
* Prepare month-end close entries for Shared Service activities including accruals and inter-company journal entries.
* Support with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing; ensure that all financial deadlines are met.
* Work cross functionally with HR, Treasury, Procurement and external partners on policies, processes and help drive key system initiatives and improvements.
* Participate in the maintenance, testing and implementation of changes to the Shared Services systems.
* Assist NCUA Examiners, external and internal Auditors during periodic examinations and audits.

Qualifications:

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

* Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or a related field is required.
* Minimum of four (4) years of experience in accounting is required.
* PeopleSoft Financials experience preferred.
* Able to work in a fast paced environment.
* Self-starter and strong ethical standards.
* Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, completeness and accuracy.
* Proficient in Excel (Formulas, Pivots, VBA).

Supervisory Responsibility

This role will not supervise employees.

Licenses and Certifications

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

*Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.*

Travel

Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call may be required.
