Team member is responsible for safely picking up, transporting, and delivering laboratory specimens and materials between clinical laboratory service areas in a timely manner. Cross training required in multiple access points. Team member must be able to make decisions and solve problems. 

Responsibilities:

Specimen & Materials Transport - Adheres to defined, optimized route parameters and communicates unforeseen variances that impact operations via open communication with dispatch team. Maintains flexibility to support client needs. Transports specimens in approved carriers or containers. Maintains courier log sheets when required. Monitors container temperature per specimen requirements. Wears personal protective equipment as appropriate to safely transport biohazardous materials. Responsible for spill clean-up when necessary, reporting any incidents to supervisor. Responsible for transporting materials and replenishment laboratory supplies to clients and other lab services locations. May operate hand trucks and dollies to move products to their destination.
 
Vehicle Operations - Maintains and operates company vehicles in a safe, responsible manner to include vehicle cleanliness and presentation. Promptly reports any vehicle maintenance warnings, alerts, or incidents to supervisor. Practices safe and courteous driving techniques in concordance with traffic laws, adhering to organizational standards as a representative of Novant Health in the community. Utilizes designated organizational resources and procedures for refueling.
 
Documentation - Ensures all appropriate documentation is complete and included on transport materials. Utilizes electronic health record as appropriate to document pick up and drop off.
 
Quality Improvement - Complies with all organizational policies and procedures. Demonstrates personal commitment to continuous quality improvement through active participation and recommendation of improvement opportunities. Organizes and manages time effectively to optimize productivity. Participates in assessment of growth strategies.
 
Education - Maintains satisfactory attendance at all educational and department meetings. Successfully completes continuing education activities to continually improve skills. Practices safety policies to maintain a safe working environment. Completes all continuing education and annual competency in safe transport of biohazardous materials. Performs all duties to satisfy regulations in preparation for inspections.

Qualifications:

*  Valid US driver's license. Driving record will be verified.

*  Completion and maintenance of Novant Health's internal driving course

*  Continuing education required in safe transport of biohazardous materials

*  Sufficient knowledge of terminology and computer skills to interact with the laboratory team and electronic health record. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations; skill in organizing and prioritizing work in a stressful environment with changing priorities. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff, and the public. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to work both independently and as a team. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; competency in customer relation skills. Must be able to interact with individuals of all cultures and levels of authority. Ability to travel to multiple facilities.
