This Software Engineering position, requiring 3-6 years of work experience, operates within a Spacecraft Operations team that is responsible flying a large fleet of geostationsary satellites. The primary responsibility is to document, develop, deploy, and maintain custom in-house software essential for the Spacecraft Operations team. A key focus is maximizing the reliability, security, consistency, scalability, and performance of these systems. Additional responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to providing support for ground system anomaly response, assisting spacecraft operations and engineering teams with routine questions, and evaluating requests for third party software. Assists senior team members with projects and strives to increase technical skills and professional knowledge. Escalates mission impacting issues to senior team members and management as necessary. Acquires the essential knowledge to act as the backup engineer for all assigned critical systems, products, and processes. This position is available in Cheyenne, WY or Gilbert, AZ.
Key Responsibilities:
* Document, develop, deploy, and maintain reliable and efficient code using C#, VB, ASP.NET, JavaScript, Python, PowerShell, and other scripting languages
* Build client GUI, console, service, and web applications to support real-time operations in a multi-user environment
* Develop solutions in a mixed Windows/Linux environment
* Design, implement, and maintain SQL databases
* Provide support to Spacecraft Operations and Engineering teams
* Communicate with team regarding new and ongoing projects and issues
* Participate in 24x7 rotating on-call schedule to cover support requirements outside normal business hours
* Generate and present weekly and monthly reports regarding system performance, issues, and project status
* Collaborate with senior team members with development projects
* Participate in code and documentation reviews
* Identify new tools/methods/processes to improve team communication and efficiency
* Support end-to-end systems integration and regression testing
* Use a spectrum analyzer and other tools to diagnose and monitor RF components of the ground system
* Works closely with primary engineers to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to act as a backup engineer for critical products
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and build requirements
* Assist with development of proof of concept products within a controlled test environment
* Work in a high stress environment in a cohesive group setting; possessing excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to adhere to policies and follow procedures
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree from a four-year college in computer science or related field, plus 3-6 years of software engineering experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
* Must be a U.S. Person (a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident) as position requires access to U.S. export restricted materials
* Spacecraft operations experience preferred
* Experience with client/server and web application development using .NET
* Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio, Bitbucket, Git, NuGet, Blazor, JSON, and RESTful API's
* Microsoft SQL and MySQL database design and maintenance
* Monitor system health and performance through standard and custom tools and processes
* Respond to system anomalies, trouble tickets, and user requests
* Ability to support a rotating on-call schedule to provide 24x7 coverage for critical mission operations
Skills and Qualifications:
* Read and comprehend business periodicals, technical procedures or government policies
* Communicate effectively through written and verbal reports/correspondence
* Respond to questions from peers/managers/customers
* Possess a working knowledge of standard office productivity tools
* Knowledge of computer networking and communications systems principles
* Ability to employ basic troubleshooting principles to identify and resolve issues
* Solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in dynamic and stressful situations
* Interpret a variety of instructions provided in: written, verbal, schematic, or schedule form
* Ability to work in small teams and adapt to changing priorities
* Complete basic spacecraft operations training
* Dedicated workspace adjacent to a 24x7 operations center and equipment data center with possible electrical shock, radiation, vibration, and computer/equipment noise exposure; typically works M-F normal business hours, but must be able to support work and on-call duties during off hours, weekends, and holidays as dictated by the needs of a 24x7 operation; up to 10% travel
