Software Development Engineer IV

Responsibilities:

* Avalara e-Invoicing and Live Reporting: Dive into our multi-patented, cloud-native product suite. Help build a flexible, platform for electronic invoicing and live reporting across industries and geographies. You will focus on performance, scalability, reliability, and simplicity.

* Design with Vision: Turn product requirements into clear software designs, including both low-level designs (LLDs) that outline component interactions, data flows, and detailed technical choices. Your technical expertise will guide the team, boost productivity, and promote growth through hands-on design collaboration and knowledge sharing.

* Code, Review, Commit: Collaborate with a dynamic team to deliver more than you thought possible. You'll research and implement the best libraries and frameworks, write clean and efficient code, participate in code reviews, and contribute to both public APIs and customer-facing UIs.

* Create Industry-Leading Products: As the market leader, we never settle. You'll own main areas within our platform, improve boldly, and push boundaries to maintain our competitive edge.

* Balance Automation with Human Insight: Handle unique challenges at the intersection of automation and human ingenuity. We value smart automation but know the human touch is irreplaceable.

* Identify opportunities to integrate AI into features, systems, or services.

* Use AI to accelerate delivery velocity, innovation cycles, and maintain code quality.

* Collaborate with Product Management to apply AI responsibly in user-facing features.

* You'll be reporting directly to the Manager.

* This is a fully remote role.

Qualifications:

* Educational Background: A four year Bachelor's degree or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required.

* Professional Experience: 8+ years of industry experience or equivalent, with experience delivering high-quality features into production. You will share specific examples of your work and how you ensured its success.

* Cloud Expertise: You have hands-on experience with SaaS, Cloud Platform, service-oriented architectures, microservices, and web application development.

* You have a understanding of system performance trade-offs, load balancing, and engineering for high availability.

* Demonstrate expertise in addressing challenges such as extensibility, observability, scalability, and reliability.

* Technical Skills: Proficiency in Java, Go, React, Angular, or similar frameworks, and related technologies. Knowledge of MySQL, Redis, Snowflake, Prometheus, Kafka, Kinesis, and Grafana. Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).Familiarity with AWS (primary), with knowledge of Azure or GCP.

* T-Shaped Skillset: You'll bring broad technological knowledge with expertise in specific areas.
