Global Communities is seeking a Social Specialist for an anticipated project. This two-year program will contribute to the food and nutritional security of vulnerable communities in the Moskitia and the Atlantic Coast of Honduras through environmentally sustainable, resilient, and culturally relevant solutions. 

The Social Specialist will coordinate the execution of the project's social management process, ensuring, in collaboration with the Environmental Specialist, compliance with the requirements of the relevant Environmental and Social Standards of the Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) in the formulation and execution of the business plans of the participating groups. He/she will assess social risks and ensure that measures are included to avoid, minimize, or mitigate them, as relevant. He/she will also design strategies to promote social inclusion processes in the participating groups, establishing and following up on the complaints and grievance mechanism and maintaining adequate communication with counterpart environmental and social teams and national authorities. Responsibilities:

* Ensure that all actions are framed and comply with national and ESF standards for social inclusion and environmental protection, in coordination with the Environmental Specialist. 

* Facilitate trainings and lectures on inclusion, women's empowerment, and related subjects to ensure project staff integrate these subjects into their programming. 

* Conduct a study of gender gaps and multi-generational inclusion; develop and implement strategies according to this study.  

* Promote and facilitate the participation of young people in project activities. 

* Assess social risks in business plans and nutrition & hygiene plans and ensure that measures are included to avoid, minimize, or mitigate them. 

* Ensure the implementation of protection and safeguarding policies. 

* Facilitate participatory and consultative mechanisms with communities, including the establishment and required follow ups of the complaint and grievance mechanism. 

* Promote the process of social inclusion in the participating groups. 

* Promote the methodology for the preparation and execution of Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP). 

* Develop a mapping of providers of gender-based violence prevention and care services. 

* Support the development of monthly and quarterly reports on project implementation and monitoring. 

* Support the development of project management indicators as part of the project's Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Plan. 

Qualifications:

Key Requirements 

* A university degree in social work/social management, sociology, anthropology, history, psychology, economics, or another degree relevant to the functions of the position, with a master's degree in any discipline in the social, economic, or development area. 

* At least six (6) years of work experience promoting, supporting or advising processes of participation and social inclusion, preferably with indigenous peoples and afro-descendants of Honduras or other regions of the Americas.  

* Knowledge of the indigenous and/or Afro-descendant context and verifiable work experience in the Honduran Moskitia region. 

* Verifiable work experience in promoting the inclusion of specific groups such as youth, women, indigenous, and Afro-descendant peoples, the disabled, and the elderly in agricultural or rural development programming. 

* Verifiable experience in social risk assessment and management for programs or projects in rural areas. 

* Verifiable experience in facilitating, supporting, or executing organizational strengthening processes in communities, family/producer groups, and/or organizations in rural Honduras. 

* Proven experience in facilitating training processes on social issues for different actors in rural areas, with the ability to adopt processes and methodologies in culturally differentiated groups. 

* Good verbal and written communication skills. 

* Leadership and ability to coordinate with technical teams from different disciplines. 

* 100% proficiency in Spanish (spoken, reading and writing). Knowledge of the Miskito, Tawaka, Pech and/or Garífuna language will be an advantage, but is not required.
