Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):
Under the direction of the Traffic Sign Supervisor, the Senior Sign Technology Technician will coordinate and perform work necessary for oversight of the creation of the City of Boston signage.
Responsibilities:
* Ensures signs are created in accordance with MUTCD standards, plans, and specifications.
* Supervises and manages employees responsible for the sign fabrication process.
* Inspects work and reviews maintenance records of the work performed for data completeness and accuracy.
* Effectively manages production and materials.
* Regularly inspects, maintains, and repairs equipment to ensure proper functioning.
* Performs on-site training for new unit employees.
* Updates asset data, work orders, and tasks in Cartegraph.
* Conducts daily inspection of tools and equipment.
* Assists in the daily operations of the sign shop.
* Updates and maintains an inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies.
* Orders tools, equipment, and supplies under the direction of the Traffic Sign Supervisor.
* Performs related work as required.
Required to work in any emergency as required by the Commissioner of Transportation or designee.
Qualifications:
* At least three (3) years of full-time experience in the maintenance and fabrication of signs is preferred, and experience with the installation of signs is desired. Supervisory experience is required.
* Proficiency in FlexiSign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop is required.
* Must be willing to obtain a working knowledge of the City of Boston Traffic Rules and Regulations, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for Streets and Highways, and related software the department utilizes (Cartegraph, Google Suite, CRM system).
* Ability to create and maintain graphic libraries of all City of Boston and (MUTCD) Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices sign designs.
* Proficient in FlexiSign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop.
* Working knowledge of large-format printing and cutting equipment operations.
* Experience with RIP software.
* Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft applications and Google Suite.
* Possession of Massachusetts Class D or higher Driver's License, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop certificates.
* Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required.
Willingness to work overnight shifts from May through November.
