Senior Research Specialist, Center for Discovery and Innovation - CDI

				Overview:

The Senior Research Specialist will be working in the laboratory of Dr. Feinman investigating  the microbiome-immune-myeloma axis.  The successful candidate will participate in identifying microbiota-associated immune biomarkers that have prognostic and therapeutic potential in myeloma, ultimately leading to microbiota-centered interventions that overcome resistance to immunotherapy. The research will include both preclinical and translational studies. Experience in mouse models of disease, husbandry and basic molecular/immunologic assays will be useful to the position.

The Center for Discovery and Innovation- CDI was established by Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) as an academic basic and translational research enterprise to rapidly translate science innovation to the clinic and to improve outcomes for patients with cancer, infectious diseases, autoimmune disease and other acute and chronic diseases.  The CDI has grown rapidly since its origins in 2019, and now has 39 labs, 200+ scientists and allied personnel supported by 78 NIH and DoD grants and more than 87 other grants and contracts. Areas of expertise include genomics, epigenetics, drug resistance, stem cell biology, drug discovery, diagnostics and biomarker development, rheumatology and pharmacology.

Responsibilities:

A day in the life of a Senior Research Specialist, CDI at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

* Conducts research and/or laboratory tasks and experiments under general supervision. 
* Collects, analyzes and interprets data. 
* Creates reports from analysis of initial observations and conclusions. 
* Recommends changes to experimental protocols, design and documentation. 
* Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher level staff. 
* Provides coaching and/or mentoring. 
* Presents findings at national conferences. 
* Publishes results in reputable peer-reviewed journals. 
* Leads, drives and manages projects, including but not limited to communicating with collaborators
* Supports grant reporting and writing. 
* Other duties and/or projects as assigned. 
* Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications:

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

* M.D. or PhD. from an accredited medical school or graduate level institution in a scientific field or other relevant area of study. 
* Minimum of 4 or more years of experience of post-doctoral research or other applicable research experience in a qualified laboratory in academia or industry. 
* Minimum of two peer-reviewed publications from prior work experience. 
* Experience conducting and designing research projects. 
* Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter. 
* Advanced knowledge of lab specific methodologies and experimental procedures. 
* Ability to conduct independent research.
* Ability to work effectively within a team.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
* Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
