Overview:
GovCIO is currently hiring for Network Engineer, Edge Operations for our NIH-CIT proposal. This position is located in Bethesda, MD and is a remote/hybrid position.
Responsibilities:
The role's responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Support the Operations Section Manager with personnel administration, strategic planning, and staff planning. The Network Operations Senior Engineer will work alongside the Service Delivery Team, Architecture Team, and Security Team to support their objectives
* Mentor network operations engineers in the practical application of current/emergent technologies, agile IT, ITIL and continuous improvement practices and techniques
* Participate in shift lead duties to serve as "queue managers" to ensure each escalated issue is efficiently assigned, actively being worked by expediting resolution and fulfillment to meet SLAs
* Ensure all network infrastructure devices and systems are monitored using tools such as Grafana for log aggregation, Cisco's StealthWatch providing the deep analysis of network traffic, and PerfSonar for the complete end-to-end visibility
* Provide maintenance, patching, and troubleshooting support for NIHNet's DWDM circuits (fiber rings) to ensure backbone redundancy to NIHNet (e.g., 100Gbs, T1/T3 Circuits) to meet 99.99% network availability service level
* Work with Network Architecture team to identify and recommend software defined networking (SDN) solutions to improve automation and allow for "zero-touch" installation and deployments
* Coordinate with Office of Research and Facilities (ORF) to communicate issues and changes that may disrupt critical Metasys and Pegasys services such as NIH 911 system for government first responders
* Work with ORF to formulate performance and security improvements for the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) network
* Support Cisco-based, backend infrastructure for wireless LANs that provide wireless connectivity for NIH staff and 70,000+ visitors and patients every year
* Recommend wireless LAN changes to IC POCs based on anomalies detected by CIT tools such as Cisco Airwatch to improve wireless service
* Ensure wireless configurations and solutions are in accordance with published CIT Wireless Baseline Standards to support all mobile devices technologies
* Work with IC's to achieve NIH goal of 100% wireless coverage at all NIH locations
Qualifications:
* High School with CCIE (Routing and Switching) certification and 5 years of equivalent Data Center operational experience OR CCNP (Routing and Switching/Data Center) certification and 10 years of equivalent Data Center operational experience.
* Experience mentoring network operations engineers in the practical application of current/emergent technologies, agile IT, ITIL and continuous improvement practices and techniques
* Clearance Required: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
