				Overview:

Merrick & Company, a mid-sized, multi-discipline, employee-owned consulting engineering firm that prides itself on building deep relationships with its customers, is seeking a Senior Mechanical HVAC Engineer experienced in industrial utilities and HVAC design to join our Energy, Manufacturing, and Bioprocessing Business Unit. This full time, hybrid eligible, direct hire position, will be responsible for engineering, design, coordination, client communications and associated construction administration.  This position will be based in our Ellicott City, MD or Richmond, VA offices. Relocation will be considered. 

Typical annual pay range for this position is $125,000.00 - $162,000.00. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Responsibilities:

This Engineer will work in a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment and will be accountable for the oversight of engineering deliverables, calculations, systems and equipment selection, mechanical design, mechanical engineering budget and schedule management. This engineer will have the following responsibilities:

* Maintain professional relationships with vendors, customers, and other Merrick personnel. Application of knowledge of utility and HVAC systems in industrial markets such as food & beverage, personal care, advanced technology, specialty chemicals, automotive, ship building, heavy manufacturing, power, and other industrial facilities/systems.
* Work with other Merrick engineering and technical personnel to ensure project goals are met.
* Have in-depth knowledge of mechanical systems including, but are not limited to, building HVAC, industrial ventilation, dust collection, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, pumps, blowers, natural gas, steam & condensate, compressed air, process water, hygienic piping and equipment, and dry material handling equipment.
* Develop and manage all aspects of the mechanical design including system design, duct sizing, pipe sizing, equipment sizing and selection, and specifications with datasheets.
* Contribute to the preparation of construction documents including drawings, specifications, calculations and equipment datasheets.
* Confirm and review applicable codes and standards such as, but not limited to, the IBC, IMC, IPC, ASME, ASHRAE, API and NFPA.
* Perform heating and cooling load calculations utilizing software such as Trace.
* Perform heat loss calculations utilizing software such as AFT Fathom/Arrow.
* Perform industrial ventilation system design in accordance with OSHA/ANSI standards and ACGIH best practices.
* Provide technical support during construction including problem solving for field oversights, review of vendor submittals, perform field inspections, and address RFIs.
* Travel to project sites and corporate offices (a small percentage of overnight travel required).

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited program required.
* Twelve (12) years relevant industry experience.
* Experience leading teams of engineers and designers on design projects.
* Ability to visit industrial sites and construction sites for the intent of performing inspections and observations that may be physically demanding. These inspections and observations may be made at heights, in confined spaces, and may require the use of a respirator to perform the inspections.
* Registered Professional Engineer (or ability to obtain your PE within the first year of employment in Virginia and/or Maryland).
* Client projects for this position require US Citizenship.
