Overview:
GovCIO is currently hiring a Senior Academic Instructor to provide the Joint Special Operations University (JSOU) with educational and research support services emphasizing SOF force management, campaigning, and warfighting studies. This is an on-site position located in Tampa, FL.
Responsibilities:
The Senior Academic Instructor will provide comprehensive expertise in instruction, curriculum development, research, and scholarly contributions to advance JSOU's mission. Key responsibilities include:
* Delivering research-driven curriculum and classroom instruction for USSOCOM and TSOC courses (up to TS/SCI), including advanced programs on SOF force management, campaigning, and warfighting.
* Teaching senior leaders across HQ USSOCOM, TSOCs, and SOJTF/JSOTF staffs through lectures, seminars, and workshops on topics such as SOF Strategy & Concept Development, SOF Design & Development Process, Capability Development & Assessments, SOF Readiness Reporting, Campaign Plan for Global Special Operations (CP-CSO), Global SOF Synchronization (GSOS), the Joint Planning Process (JPP), Operational Art & Design, and Warfighting Functions, Authorities & Permissions, Center of Gravity analysis, and Risk Management.
* Facilitating the integration of policy, strategy, and operational art to achieve sustainable strategic outcomes in complex environments while updating all assigned lessons and courseware in accordance with JSOU academic standards.
* Promoting and conducting joint SOF research and publishing scholarly work at operational and strategic levels, including contributions to Commander-directed classified projects (TS/SCI, ACCM).
* Supporting USSOCOM's formalized research program by collaborating with PME institutions, academic organizations, and international research centers; drafting and executing the annual JSOU Research Plan; and publishing at least one major research project (monograph) or two smaller projects annually.
* Providing outreach by teaching at senior PME institutions, contributing to symposia and war games, and transferring knowledge through collaboration with DoD, interagency, and academic communities.
* Advancing the professional body of knowledge through active participation in conferences, symposia, and publishing, while ensuring instruction and assessments meet JSOU's institutional effectiveness standards.
* Supporting governance processes, curriculum reviews, and workshops to maintain alignment with JSOU's academic and accreditation requirements
Qualifications:
Required Skills and Experience:
* Clearance Required: Active Top Secret
* SCI eligibility required
* Master's Degree with 10+ years of relevant experience in Political Science, International Affairs/Relations, History/Military History, Cultural and Regional Studies, Strategy, Information/Influence Operations, or other related field.
* Minimum 5 years' experience within the SOF or interagency community.
* At least 3 years of post-secondary instructor experience or have graduated from a Faculty Development Course recognized by the JSOU Academic Dean.
* Demonstrated expertise in SOF force management systems (PPBE, JCIDS, DAS, GFM) and application to joint/coalition operations.
* Familiarity with HQ USSOCOM processes, battle rhythm, and interagency coordination (ASD-SOLIC, JIATF NCR, Joint Staff).
Preferred:
* Doctorate/PhD in Political Science, International Affairs/Relations, History/Military History, Cultural and Regional Studies, Strategy, or Information/Influence Operations.
* Experience in curriculum design at PME institutions or senior leader education programs.
* At least 5 years of research and a proven publication record, conference presentations in SOF-related academic or professional fields.
