Overview:
Odyssey is seeking a Scientist I (PhD level) to lead the Microbiology and Molecular Genetics (MMG) group within the Diarrheal Disease Research (DDR) Department at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR). The candidate will perform a variety of primary research efforts to evaluate medical countermeasures for the prevention of diarrheal diseases through in vitro, ex vivo and small animal models in the context of the warfighter.
Responsibilities:
Duties include, but not limited to:
* Develop novel research protocols, procedures and methodologies through effective integration of existing literature and previous group research.
* Coordinate research projects to include the design and development of the protocols, providing insights into the experimental objectives and techniques best suited to achieve the mission.
* Direct research staff including post-doctoral fellows, research associates and research assistants.
* Collect, manage and store diverse data sets.
* Perform complex statistical analyses.
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to complete the mission requirements.
* Present findings through posters and oral lectures at international conferences and symposia.
* Publish in peer-reviewed journals.
* Obtain DoD and other Government grant funding.
Qualifications:
Minimum Required Qualifications
Citizenship: Must be a US citizen or Green Card holder with U.S. residence in three of the last 5 years
Clearance: Ability to obtain NACI
Education: PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology or similar program
Years of Experience: Minimum 1 years of post-graduate experience
Certifications: N/A

Technical Skills
* Experience with BSL-2 pathogen research and related countermeasures
* Experience with In vitro and In vivo bacterial pathogen infection models
* Experience with Molecular Biology techniques including nucleic acid extraction, cloning, PCR and sequencing
* Experience with Immunology techniques including immunoblotting, Western Blot and ELISA
* Experience with performing advanced statistical analyses such as GraphPad Prism, SAS, R, etc.
* Experience with publication in peer-reviewed journals
* Experience with writing and submitting DoD and other government grants
* Experience leading and training scientists and technicians
