Overview: School nurse within the West Des Moines School district. The nurse is responsible for all health issues with students during their schiool day. The nurse also serves as a liaison to parents on health and wellness issues and provides education/training to students, staff, and families. Responsibilities: * * Works with families, physicians, and West Des Moines Community Schools. * Uses the nursing process to promote positive health and development of students * Assures all program-required health screenings are conducted. * Provides direct nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process including pertinent and appropriate documentation. * Exerts independent judgment, and maintains responsibility for the condition of assigned patients. * Assures compliance with State mandated health requirements for school entry. * Implements procedures for prevention of communicable diseases in the schools and alerts staff and parents/ guardians to health trends and issues. Qualifications: Education: * Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or IA Board of Nursing approved nursing program. License(s)/Certification(s): * Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa . Experience: * One year of nursing experience required. * Pediatric nursing experience preferred. Other: * Level 3 Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
