Overview: Safety Technician UnityPoint Health - Marshalltown Hospital PRN; As-needed Marshalltown Hospital is seeking a diligent and proactive Safety Technician to join our team on an as-needed basis. Safety Technicians are responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and secure environment within the departments to which they are assigned. In this role, you will engage in activities designed to identify, deter, abate, or correct both routine and emergent safety situations as they arise, ensuring the well-being of all patients, visitors, and staff within the hospital. Responsibilities: Physical Environment of Care * Provide a safe environment to the patients and department you are assigned. Patient Safety * De-escalate behavioral health patients that are behaviorally escalated. Regulatory Compliance * Provide documentation of rounds and all other items required by regulatory standards or policies and procedures. Basic UPH Performance Criteria * Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines. * Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance. * Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position. * Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare. * Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year. * Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance. Qualifications: Required: * High School diploma. * Good communication skills. * Good documentation skills. * Ability to defuse acute situations with behavioral patients Preferred: * Post-secondary in counseling, therapy, or psychology. * 1 - 3 years working in a related field or situation.
