Overview:
Versatile, self-starting individual that works well on their own, with very little supervision, to monitor and provide technical support to ensure safe and healthy working conditions are provided for the prevention of injuries and ill health. The Inspector will evaluate work sites to ensure construction operations are in compliance with EM 385-1-1, USACE Safety and Health Requirements, OSHA CFR 1926 Construction Standards, Federal, State, and local requirements. Will provide technical support to area supervisors/managers in recommending corrective actions for compliance deficiencies, conduct observations to monitor behaviors, and perform root cause analysis (RCA). Inspectors will be required to operate monitoring equipment and conduct specialized testing of physical, chemical, and environmental stressors. Inspectors will write technical reports and will interact with Directors, Managers, Supervisors, Project Monitors, Engineers, Subcontractors and the Vectrus Subcontracts Office.
Responsibilities:
* Conducts compliance evaluations at work sites and on construction sites.
* Performs root cause analysis, risk assessments, hazard analysis, and evaluation of existing/new/modified processes.
* Inspects and test work sites for potential physical, chemical, and environmental stressors to ensure safety and health non-conformance issues are documented and reports findings to Managers for corrective action.
* Prepares professional reports to site and functional managers on compliance and observations; assists with preparation of required corporate reports; updates Safety data bases.
* Recommends abatement actions for identified deficiencies; monitors corrective action and tracks task to completion.
* Observes compliance during workplace inspections; documents behavior traits during audits.
* Evaluates the proper PPE is used at construction sites, or sites that maintenance is being performed, corrects behaviors on the spot and reports on compliance.
* Evaluates hazardous material and hazardous waste programs in industrial areas.
* Sets a good example to the workforce by following all safety, and health regulations, policies, procedures and practices; keeps work area/equipment clean and orderly.
* Performs other duties and assignments as required.
Qualifications:
Education / Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
* High School Diploma. One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
* Preferred-Associates Degree in environmental, safety, health, or related discipline. Or, combination advanced education and four years' experience.
Experience:
* Minimum two (2) years' experience as environmental, safety and health inspector or specialist in the construction industry, with firsthand knowledge of EM 385-1-1 and CFR 1926 OSHA Standards, safety compliance programs and hazardous material management, to include environmental compliance; knowledgeable in DOD, Army, EPA, and Federal regulations. Military background and training are beneficial
Skills & Technology Used:
* Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, Competent in computer operations to include Microsoft Office; Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Projects. Must have a strong ability to work independently.
Working Environment:
* Job assignments will involve work in and out-of-doors with exposure to extreme climatic conditions including frequent dust storms, and high temperatures.
Physical Activities:
* Must be able to lift/push/pull 50 lbs.; Work will require stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting; Work in areas where a potential exist for exposure to physical, chemical, and biological agents; Personal Protective Equipment is required when applicable, Such equipment includes but is not limited to head; hand; foot; torso; respiratory; vision, and hearing protection.
