Overview:
The Senior Vice President of Corporate Development is a pivotal member of the leadership team, accountable for defining, advancing, and operationalizing the organization's enterprise-wide growth strategy across the ambulatory surgery center portfolio and broader physician partnership ecosystem. Reporting directly to the Chief Transaction Officers, this executive provides strategic vision and leadership for transformational partnerships that strengthen market position, expand service capabilities, and drive long-term value creation.
The SVP leads a high-performing, multidisciplinary development organization and partners closely with senior executives and the Board to proactively source, assess, structure, negotiate, and integrate complex transactions-including joint ventures, physician alignment strategies, and large-scale M&A. This leader ensures the organization maintains a disciplined, data-driven approach to evaluating opportunities across the Southeast, while cultivating deep and enduring relationships with physicians, health system partners, and other key stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
1. Strategic Growth & Market Expansion
Deep expertise and proven network across the Southeast, and knowledge of the healthcare landscape therein
Identify growth opportunities in healthcare sectors such as hospitals, outpatient services, medical devices, digital health, or biotech.
Develop strategies to expand market presence, including entering new geographic regions or service lines.
Align Novant Health corporate development plans with evolving healthcare regulations and industry trends.
2. Mergers, Acquisitions, and Partnerships
Lead Novant Health M&A activities, including due diligence on clinical, regulatory, and operational aspects.
Should have proven leadership experience negotiating deals valued at $1billion or more.
Evaluate potential partnerships with healthcare providers, payers, technology firms, and research institutions.
Structure deals mindful of healthcare compliance, reimbursement models, and patient care outcomes.
3. Regulatory and Compliance Oversight
Ensure all corporate development activities comply with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, FDA, CMS rules).
Navigate complex regulatory landscapes impacting mergers, partnerships, and new ventures.
Work closely with legal and compliance teams to mitigate risks related to patient privacy, antitrust, and billing practices.
4. Financial and Clinical Due Diligence
Conduct financial modeling with a focus on reimbursement rates, payer mix, and healthcare economics.
Assess clinical efficacy, quality outcomes, and operational impact of potential acquisitions or partnerships.
Evaluate the sustainability and scalability of healthcare services and technologies.
5. Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management
Build relationships with healthcare executives, physician groups, payers, regulatory bodies, and community partners.
Collaborate with clinical leaders, operations, and finance teams to ensure alignment on growth initiatives.
Communicate strategy and deal progress to boards, investors, and key stakeholders.
6. Integration and Change Management
Oversee integration planning for clinical operations, IT systems (EHRs), and regulatory compliance.
Manage cultural alignment between acquired organizations and existing operations to maintain quality of care.
Monitor patient outcomes, operational efficiencies, and cost synergies post-integration.
7. Innovation and Technology Adoption
Identify opportunities for innovation in healthcare delivery, telehealth, AI diagnostics, or medical devices.
Lead initiatives to incorporate new technologies into growth strategies and partnerships.
Assess the impact of digital transformation on operational efficiency and patient engagement.
8. Risk Management Specific to Healthcare
Evaluate risks related to clinical liability, reimbursement changes, and regulatory scrutiny.
Develop mitigation strategies for risks inherent in healthcare mergers and partnerships.
Ensure patient safety and quality standards are upheld during growth initiatives.
Qualifications:
* Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Management, Public Health or a related field. Graduate Degree, preferred. MS, MBA; a combination of experience and/or education will be taken into consideration.
* Experience:
* 10+ years, required. 15 years plus. Progressive leadership experience in healthcare strategy, M&A, corporate development, or investment banking-demonstrating consistent success in leading large, complex transactions.
* Five years Business Acumen of deal transactions, required.
* Five years Experience with PE and banking, Acute, community-based, ambulatory and physician practice healthcare setting, preferred.
* Additional Skills (required):
* Provide enterprise-wide leadership in developing, structuring, and scaling physician and health system joint ventures, serving as the executive architect for partnership strategy, portfolio optimization, and long-term growth within the ambulatory surgery center and broader ambulatory ecosystem.
* Oversee governance, regulatory alignment, and compliance across all partnership models, ensuring organizational risk management, board-level transparency, and adherence to evolving healthcare policy and industry standards.
* Serve as a key executive voice with Board members, C-suite leaders, and external partners, leveraging exceptional communication, negotiation, and influence to drive alignment, secure investment decisions, and advance strategic initiatives.
* Lead enterprise strategic planning and decision-making, evaluating emerging opportunities, assessing risk and capital deployment, and guiding resource allocation to maximize value creation and sustainable growth.
* Foster a high-performance culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, and accountability, empowering cross-functional teams and diverse stakeholders to achieve shared objectives and advance organizational transformation.
* Anticipate market and industry shifts and translate complex insights into bold, actionable strategies, challenging conventional approaches and positioning the organization ahead of competitive, operational, and regulatory trends.
